 In early February this year, I went on a business trip to the south of the country and stayed overnight at the home of a relative who currently works for a large sugar factory in the south. He had four children in a row, but as he was getting older and had not yet had any children, he was so puzzled that he went around asking gods and Buddhists for fortune telling, but to no avail, and some of the fortune tellers even said "with a straight face" that he was destined to have "no children". Some fortune-tellers even "asserted" that he was destined to have "no children", and some also "asserted" that he would have "seven fairies" in a row, which made him even more disappointed and discouraged. When the author's relatives overheard Mr. Hu's plight, they comforted him and suggested that he might want to give more alms and do more good deeds, which might lead to a change of fortune in the future.

   After three months of doing good deeds, Mrs. Wu suddenly felt that she was not getting her monthly letter, and her belly was getting bigger and bigger, and after an examination by a doctor, she was found to be five months pregnant. When Mr. Hu heard that his wife was pregnant again and that she could not have an abortion, he was so anxious that he could not speak for a long time for fear of having another daughter, as he was sweating and pale. At this point, a relative of the author suggested to him that he should make a wish that if he could give birth to a boy this time, he would do a great act of charity afterwards to thank God for his blessing. On hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Hu thought it was very reasonable, so they openly told everyone on the spot that once his wife had a baby boy, they would donate 50,000 yuan to a charity event to help the poor. A few months later, Mr. Wu was surprised to have a baby boy, and his wish for many years was thus fulfilled.

今年二月初笔者出差至南部，夜宿一亲戚家，笔者这位亲戚目前服务于南部规模宏大的一所糖厂，他说他们公司里面有一位姓胡的同事曾经发生一件非常特殊的事件，使大家不得不承认这是一件奇迹。这位胡先生起先连连生了四个千金，由于年纪渐大尚未传子，内心深感纳闷，因此就到处求神拜佛，问卜相命，结果也都不得要领，有些相命师甚至“铁口直断”，说他命中注定“没有子命”，有些还“斩钉截铁”，说他将连生“七仙女”，使他更为失望和泄气。笔者的亲戚在无意中知道胡先生的苦衷之后，乃加以安慰，并建议他不妨多作布施，多行善事，说不定将来便会有转机。

   这位同事听后虽然半信半疑，然而为了求子心切，只好姑且一试，以后每看到报上有人发生不幸的消息，便立即按址汇款加以救助，如此连续行善三个月后，胡太太突然感到月信不来，而且肚皮日益涨大，经过医师检查后竟然发现已经怀有身孕达五个月之多。胡先生闻知太太又有身孕而且不能堕胎之后，为了害怕再生女儿，竟然急得汗流浃背，脸色发白，怅然若失，久久都讲不出话来。这时笔者亲戚乃向他建议：事到如今不如许一个愿，如果这次能够生下男孩，事后将作一件大善事以答谢上天的保佑。胡先生夫妇听后认为很有道理，因此也就当场向大家公开表示，将来太太一旦弄璋（“弄璋”指生下男孩——编者注），便乐捐五万元参加布施济贫的善举。没想到几个月后，胡先生竟然真的喜获麟儿，多年来的心愿也就由此得到实现，这时心情的快慰和满足，也就可想而知，所有的同事也不得不承认这是一件奇迹。

 戒杀与放生的行为包括哪些

 1. Do not kill a living being with your own hands.

　　2. Do not abet others to kill.

　　3. Do not help others to kill.

　　4. Abstain from eating meat.

　　5. Do not engage in trades related to killing.

　　6、Whenever there is worship, regardless of what is being worshipped, use vegetarian dishes, flowers and fruit, not animal gifts.

　　7. If you see someone killing a human being, you should discourage them or buy the animal to be slaughtered with money and release it. If this does not work, or if the person does not sell the animal, then you should have compassion for the slaughtered animal, and even better if you can recite the Buddha's name or mantra for it.

　　8. Do not abuse the animal.

　　9、Other actions that are contrary to killing.

　　10. Abstain from killing and releasing animals yourself, and advise others to do the same. 

   1、不亲手杀生。

　　2、不教唆别人杀生。

　　3、不帮助别人杀生。

　　4、戒除肉食。

　　5、不从事与杀生有关的行业。

　　6、凡有祭拜，不管拜的是什么，一律用素菜、鲜花、水果，不用牲礼。

　　7、见人杀生，应加劝阻，或用钱将临宰之动物买而放之。若劝阻无效，或他不卖，则应对被杀之动物起同情心，若能为它念佛号或往生咒更好。

　　8、不虐待动物。

　　9、其他与杀生行为相反之行为。

　　10、自己戒杀放生，也劝别人戒杀放生。
