At the same time, he believed that helping the helpless was the most meaningful thing in the world, and that education and health care were the cornerstones of national prosperity. In his early years, as his career progressed and he was able to do more, he supported education and healthcare in the Mainland and Hong Kong. In 1980, the Li Ka Shing Foundation was established to provide more systematic support for education, healthcare, culture and public welfare. Over the years, donations have accumulated to more than HK$5 billion, of which about 70% has been co-ordinated through the Li Ka Shing Foundation and the remaining 30% has been donated by his group of companies under the impetus of Mr Li.
Mr Li is the richest man in Hong Kong and one of the top 10 most influential people in the world. He controls the economic lifeblood of Hong Kong; operates the world's largest port; has a monopoly on power transmission lines to mainland China; enjoys a reputation as a top property developer and retailer; and holds the title of the largest mobile phone operator ...... He is probably one of the few giants of the Hong Kong market to have come from a poor background and one of the few evergreens in the market and a leader who has succeeded in all areas and at all levels of management.
Mr. and Mrs. Li Ka-shing were known to be great philanthropists and Buddhist monks.
He donated over HK$30 million to establish the Li Ka Shing Care and Attention Home, which is a large and well-equipped home covering an area of about 1,500 square metres and can accommodate several hundred elderly people for nursing and hospice care. During the construction of the home, Mr Li appointed senior staff, programme managers, office managers and senior secretaries from the Li Ka Shing Foundation to work on the project, so that the home was opened within a short period of time and many elderly people were able to spend their twilight years in the home.
Mr. Li has also planted a wide range of blessings in Hong Kong and the Mainland, often donating hundreds of millions of dollars to build statues, temples, bridges and roads, education, medical care, research, culture and disaster relief, among other charitable donations. Mr. Lee is a great benefactor of the world's largest Buddha in Hong Kong.
His wife was also a devout believer in Buddhism, and her last will and testament was to follow the Buddhist system.
Please remember Mr. Lee's motto: "To be able to contribute to society while I am able, and to seek and build a better life for the helpless, is very meaningful and a lifelong vocation."
Mr Lee's wealthy Buddhist family is representative of those in Hong Kong and Taiwan. They are convinced of the three worlds of karma and the intrinsic and necessary link between giving and wealth, and know that the spirit and demeanour of compassion and joy are characteristic of the Buddha. It has also been proven that this is the only way to have the right time, the right place and the right people; the only way for business to flourish and for society to be peaceful.
What are the acts of abstaining from killing and releasing
1. Do not kill a living being with your own hands.
2. Do not abet others to kill.
3. Do not help others to kill.
4. Abstain from eating meat.
5. Do not engage in trades related to killing.
6、Whenever there is worship, regardless of what is being worshipped, use vegetarian dishes, flowers and fruit, not animal gifts.
7. If you see someone killing a human being, you should discourage them or buy the animal to be slaughtered with money and release it. If this does not work, or if the person does not sell the animal, then you should have compassion for the slaughtered animal, and even better if you can recite the Buddha's name or mantra for it.
8. Do not abuse the animal.
9、Other actions that are contrary to killing.
10. Abstain from killing and releasing animals yourself, and advise others to do the same.
