Release of life is of immense merit

(Jizo-king Bodhisattva)

All things have a life, so be sure not to kill. Karma is remarkable, releasing life is of great merit ......

                              ------- Zhuge Changqing

All small animals are equally alive and have feelings of suffering and happiness, and there is no difference between being greedy for life and being afraid of death, so you must not harm them easily, otherwise they will suffer the same consequences. For example, I have a classmate who is usually a generous person and everyone likes to associate with him. However, this person had two major hobbies: one was raising pigeons (selling the bad ones or killing them for meat), the other was fishing, and sometimes he went out bird hunting. At the age of twenty-three, he was examined by a hospital and was suffering from lymphoma, which was at an advanced stage. During his illness, he suffered a lot and died after two or three years of treatment. He died, much to the sorrow of his friends and family. At that time, I had not studied Buddhism and did not understand this, but thought that good people do not get good karma. Now I realise that his illness was due to the karma of killing many people.

Among Buddhists, it is very important to believe in karma and induction is also very wonderful.

There is a doctor in Suining, Sichuan, who is so influential at home and abroad that her house is full of banners from patients who have been cured by her in the central provinces, cities and abroad, in appreciation of her medical skills, and she is now the benefactor of thousands of lives.

When I asked those who had been cured by her, they all said that when medical treatment did not work, this doctor advised us to release our lives and recite sutras, etc. After following the instructions and performing a wide range of good deeds such as releasing our lives, our bodies were cured. When I heard this, I had a better understanding of the Buddha's words. So releasing life is also a supernatural cure for illness.

On the contrary, killing is one of the direct causes of a short life and many illnesses. A senior monk once said, "If one practices life-saving release, even a short life becomes an extended life; if one kills fish and snakes and other beings, even a long-lived person becomes short-lived."

If you have a sick person or a seriously ill person in your family, you can also let the sick person release life regularly, which may produce a miracle.

In addition, actively promoting and engaging in environmental protection, helping orphans, the elderly, the disabled, forgiving your enemies, honouring your parents, promoting social justice, donating to charity, education, preaching righteousness, and deeply repenting for past mistakes can all have the same effect as releasing a life. In short, by actively engaging in good deeds, you will be rewarded with unexpected rewards.

The merits of releasing life are too numerous to mention, but a brief summary is as follows.

(1) No sword and war, no war and no killing.

(2) Longevity, health and less illness.

(3) Freedom from natural disasters and calamities.

(4) Prosperity and prosperity for generations of descendants.

(5) Many sons, many males, and good luck in all one's endeavours!

(6) Prosperity in government and prosperity, and smooth sailing!

(7) Good fortune and peace in all seasons.

(viii) Relief of grievances and vengeance, elimination of all evils, no worries.

(9) In harmony with the heart of heaven and in obedience to the Buddha's command, all creatures are grateful and all Buddhas are happy.

(10) To be born in heaven and to enjoy the blessings of infinity; if one also practices the Pure Land, one can be reborn in the Western Paradise.

                              ------- 诸葛长青

What are the acts of abstaining from killing and releasing

 1. Do not kill a living being with your own hands.

  2. Do not abet others to kill.

  3. Do not help others to kill.

  4. Abstain from eating meat.

  5. Do not engage in trades related to killing.

6Whenever there is worship, regardless of what is being worshipped, use vegetarian dishes, flowers and fruit, not animal gifts.

  7. If you see someone killing a human being, you should discourage them or buy the animal to be slaughtered with money and release it. If this does not work, or if the person does not sell the animal, then you should have compassion for the slaughtered animal, and even better if you can recite the Buddha's name or mantra for it.

  8. Do not abuse the animal.

9Other actions that are contrary to killing.

  10. Abstain from killing and releasing animals yourself, and advise others to do the same.
