The book "The Four Sutras of the Buddha" says 10 ways to do good deeds and accumulate virtue

A good book that deserves to be repeatedly read and carefully implemented.

...... Zhuge Changqing

Chinese culture has a long history.

The Chinese sages are full of talents.

One of them was Mr Yuan Dafan of the Ming Dynasty.

Yuan Dafan, a famous politician and thinker of the Ming Dynasty, formerly known as Yuan Huang, had his future success predicted by fortune tellers before taking the imperial examinations, and all of them came true.

However, in 1569 he met the Zen master Yungu, who taught him the paramita mantra and explained that fate (numbers) could actually be changed, and then actively helped others.

The Four Sermons of the True Parents were Yuan's instructions to his son.

He recounts the process of changing his destiny from personal experience. It was originally named "The Four Sermons for the Discipline of the Son" to teach his son a lesson, but was later renamed to enlighten the world.

The Four Sutras of the Wayfarer is a famous ancient Chinese book that exhorts people to do good deeds.

The text is divided into four parts, namely, the study of life, the method of reforming one's faults, the method of accumulating goodness, and the effect of humility and virtue, to explain how to change one's fate.

The Four Sermons on the Way of Life, also known as the Book of Self-Reliance, is an educational book on the cultivation of virtue, the establishment of life, and the cultivation of one's moral character. The book was written in 1602 and is divided into four parts.

The first part is the study of establishing one's destiny (explaining that one's destiny is reliably created by oneself, not bound by fate).

The second part: The Method of Reformation (if one starts to reform from minor faults, then one will not commit major ones).

The third: The way to accumulate good deeds (Do more good deeds to help others, and as you accumulate more good deeds, your fate will naturally change.)

The Fourth: The Effect of Humility (Get along with others, be humble, learn from them, and you will naturally make progress.)

Zhuge Changqing saw that the third chapter of the Four Sermons on the Way of the Buddha is devoted to ten ways of doing good deeds and accumulating virtue, which all of us should learn to implement.

There are ten ways of doing good to the people, and they are very complicated, but in a nutshell, there are ten.

The first is to be kind to others.

Secondly, love and respect.

Thirdly, the beauty of being an adult.

Fourth, to persuade people to be kind.

Fifthly, saving people in distress.

Sixth: To build up the good.

Seventh: To give up wealth for good.

Eighth, to uphold the righteousness of the law.

Ninth: Respect for elders.

Tenth: To cherish life and limb.

What does it mean to be kind to others? In the last days, we should not overshadow others with our own strengths; we should not overshadow others with our own goodness; we should not trap others with our own abilities. We should not be so wise as to be indifferent; we should be tolerant and cover up the faults of others when we see them. When you see someone who has a slight advantage, or a small goodness that can be recorded, give yourself up and follow it; and give them a good name and describe it widely. All day-to-day use, a word, action, all not for their own thoughts, all for the object of the rule; this adult world for the public degree.

What is love and respect for the mind? The gentleman and the villain, in terms of physical appearance, are often easily confused, but a point of mind, then the good and the evil are separated, as clearly as the opposite of black and white. Therefore, it is said that a gentleman is different from others because of his heart. The heart of a gentleman is only the heart of loving and respecting others. There are different kinds of people, all of them are my compatriots, all of them are one of us, who should be loved? To love and respect all men is to love and respect the sages; to be able to share the will of all men is to share the will of the sages. What is it? The will of the sages is to see that the world and its people are each in their place. If we love and respect all people, and we are at peace with the people of the world, we are at peace with them for the sake of the sages.

What is the beauty of manhood? Whenever we see a person doing a good deed, or a person with desirable aspirations and advancing resources, we must entice them and make them successful. We must also make sure that they are established.

It is not easy to make a good man or a bad man, but there are many bad men in the village. It is difficult for good people to stand up for themselves in the commonwealth. But the benevolent elders are the most virtuous, if they are straightforward and supportive.

What does it mean to persuade people to be good? Who is born a human being without a conscience? It is easy to drown in the ways of the world. Whenever you are dealing with people, you should make it easy for you to open up their confusion. It is like a long night's dream, and making it come to light; it is like being in trouble for a long time, and pulling it out to make it cool. As Han Yu says, "A moment of advice is given by word of mouth, but a hundred lifetimes of advice is given by book. The most important thing is that we should not waste our time.

What does it mean to save someone in distress? It is a time of trouble and hardship. When we occasionally encounter one, we should act as if we were in pain, and quickly save it. We may use one word to relieve their oppression; or we may use many to help them in their turmoil. Cui Zi said: "A favour is not too big, but it is enough to attend to the urgency of a person. These are the words of a benevolent man.

What is the meaning of building a great benefit? Whenever there is benefit in a small township or a large euphemism, it is most appropriate to build; to open a canal to divert water, or to build a dike to prevent danger, or to build a bridge to facilitate travel, or to give tea and rice to help the hungry and thirsty; to persuade as one sees fit, to work together to build, and not to avoid suspicion or complaint.

What does it mean to give away one's wealth for good? The first and foremost of all the practices of the Buddhist monks is to give alms. The so-called almsgiving is simply the word for giving up. A person who has attained this goal should give up the six roots internally and the six dusts externally, and there is nothing that he cannot give up. If he cannot do so, he must first give from his wealth. The world lives by food and clothing, so wealth is the most important. By giving it up, we can break our stinginess internally and help others in their emergencies externally; at first we are reluctant, but in the end we are happy.

What does it mean to uphold the righteousness of the Dharma? The Dharma is the eye of all living beings. If there is no righteousness in the Dharma, how can we praise heaven and earth? How can it be cut into all things? How can we be free from dust and bondage? How can the world be transcended? Therefore, all sages and scriptures should be revered and cultivated whenever they are seen. As for promoting the righteousness of the Dharma and repaying the Buddha's grace, we should be especially encouraged to do so.

What is respect for one's elders? The father and brother of the family, the ruler of the country, and all those of high age, virtue, position, and knowledge should be served with great care. At home, you should serve your parents with love and kindness, and be gentle in your voice, which is the essence of peace and harmony. When you go out and serve the ruler, do not act in a way that the ruler is not aware of, but is self-indulgent. If you do something to a person, do not say that the ruler is unaware of it, but you do it with authority. The ancient theory of personality is that these are the most important aspects of the virtue of Yin. See that in a family of loyalty and filial piety, there is no one whose descendants do not flourish far and wide.

What does it mean to cherish the lives of things? The only thing that makes a man human is his compassion; he who seeks benevolence seeks it, and he who accumulates virtue accumulates it. In the Zhou rites and in the month of spring, sacrifices are not to be made with mare. Mencius said that a gentleman should stay away from the kitchen, so that he can be compassionate. Therefore, there are four commandments not to eat, namely, not to eat if you hear of killing, not to eat if you see killing, not to eat if you feed yourself, and not to eat if you kill for me. If you are not yet able to cut off meat, you should abstain from doing so.

Gradually, as you improve, your compassion will grow. Not only should you abstain from killing, but also from killing all living things. To seek silk and boil cocoons, to hoe the ground and kill insects, to remember the source of food and clothing, is to kill them in order to live. Therefore, the sin of waste is the same as killing a living being. As for those whose hands are injured by mistake, or whose feet are trampled on by mistake, I do not know how many, but we should be careful to prevent them. As the old poem goes, "Love the rat and always leave food on the table, pity the moth and not light the lamp. What kindness is that?

第一、与人为善;

第二、爱敬存心;

第三、成人之美;

第四、劝人为善;

第五、救人危急;

第六、兴建大利;

第七、舍财作福;

第八、护持正法;

第九、敬重尊长;

What are the acts of abstaining from killing and releasing

 1. Do not kill a living being with your own hands.

  2. Do not abet others to kill.

  3. Do not help others to kill.

  4. Abstain from eating meat.

  5. Do not engage in trades related to killing.

  6Whenever there is worship, regardless of what is being worshipped, use vegetarian dishes, flowers and fruit, not animal gifts.

  7. If you see someone killing a human being, you should discourage them or buy the animal to be slaughtered with money and release it. If this does not work, or if the person does not sell the animal, then you should have compassion for the slaughtered animal, and even better if you can recite the Buddha's name or mantra for it.

  8. Do not abuse the animal.

  9Other actions that are contrary to killing.

  10. Abstain from killing and releasing animals yourself, and advise others to do the same.
