The majesty of the Eastern Dragon Emperor!
A good general cannot be broken by his hardness, and his softness cannot be rolled up. Therefore, the weak will prevail over the strong, and the soft will prevail over the hard. Pure soft and weak, which is bound to be cut; If it is pure and strong, it is bound to die; It is neither soft nor rigid, which is consistent with the Tao.
A good general should have a strong and strong character, but not stubborn, gentle and soft, but not weak, which is usually said to be hard and soft. Simply being soft and weak will reduce your strength and even fail. Simply being strong and strong will lead to obstinacy and doom. Therefore, neither softness nor hardness, and the combination of hardness and softness is the most ideal personality characteristic and the best state.
This article discusses the cultivation of generals. The article puts forward a requirement of combining hardness and softness, and discusses it from both positive and negative aspects. It shows that "pure softness" and "pure hardness" are not good, and must combine hardness and softness.
Traditionally, military generals are strong men and big husbands, which seem to have nothing to do with "softness". Some people say "soft can overcome hard". These are all one-sided, only in one aspect. Zhuge Liang pointed out that, "A good general cannot be broken, and his softness cannot be rolled." It is very accurate to say that a general should be strong at the beginning; When you are soft, you can compromise. According to the needs, the rigidity is the rigidity, and the softness is the softness. Zhuge Liang's conclusion is: "Not soft but not rigid, consistent with the Tao." It is really insightful, and is in line with the dialectics of insight.
Of course, it is not easy to really achieve the combination of hardness and softness and moderate hardness and softness. We should be good at judging the situation and responding appropriately. However, a good general, or even an ordinary person, must learn to combine hardness and softness in order to be invincible in life.
Zhang Lianggang and soft
Zhang Liang has planned many important strategies for Liu Bang, which are related to the success or failure of the great cause. Among them, there are many examples of the combination of the weak and the strong. For example, when the main force of the Qin army met with Xiang Yu, Liu Bang decided to enter the Wu Pass from Nanyang to attack Qin. Zhang Liang opposed the hard fight and urged Liu Bang to surrender the Qin general Jia Zhu with heavy treasure. When Jia Jia agreed to surrender, Zhang Liang took advantage of the enemy's slack to break it at one stroke, fearing that his soldiers would not comply. As a result, he went straight to Xianyang and captured Prince Qin's baby. Later, Chu and Han fought, and the Han was weak and the Chu was strong. Zhang Liang advised Liu Bang to give in everywhere and use flexibility to overcome hardness. Not only did he avoid the danger of life at the Hongmen banquet, but also he gained the land of Hanzhong and Bashu. Then, he burned the plank road again, which made Xiang Yu fall for it repeatedly. Liu Bang turned weak to strong, and finally won the world with cloth clothes. Zhang Liang's brilliant strategy is said to come from the three strategies taught by Huangshi Public. The third strategy is not just about using the weak to control the strong, but emphasizes that both the strong and the weak should be appropriate, so as to "set the soft, give the hard, use the weak, and add the strong."
