Question: I was shocked to hear that [陈晓旭] died of illness recently. Seven questions were raised. Jasper had learned Buddhism for ten years and had made a lot of contributions to Buddhism when he was alive. Why did he end up like this?

But you didn't see it. It's normal for you to see it. Her result was not bad, quite a win.
When she was seriously ill, more than 300 people would help her. Day and night, the Buddhist Chant did not stop. This kind of blessing was even impossible for an ordinary old master. This was a rare opportunity. And learning Buddhism might not last long. Some had been learning Buddhism for decades, and some had been learning Buddhism for their entire lives. Even when they died, they were still in a hurry and had no idea what to do. She had donated a lot of money to Buddhism, but not a lot of money. As a result, her career barrier had been eliminated. That would be too easy. Maybe you think it's unfair.
The most important thing in learning Buddhism was confidence. Let me tell you something. When [晓旭] was seriously ill, I and Glenda would take care of her. We have tried our best to alleviate her pain. We saw it. For ordinary people, she only suffered a little. Level nine Buddha and Bodhisattva helped her to dissolve it. It was not easy. Then why couldn't she turn around? First, he was not confident enough. People had karma. She knew very well that karma was accumulated in her previous life, not in this life. She didn't make a fortune in this life, but in her previous life.
Therefore, you must understand the cause and effect of three lifetimes. Why was he a good man all his life? What he got was retribution. He was a bad guy all his life, but he enjoyed life. So many people didn't believe in karma when they saw this. He is so lucky in his previous life that you didn't see his retribution. In his previous life, he could enjoy the happiness of two hundred years, but the evil deeds he had created in this life could enjoy the happiness of sixty or seventy years, and that happiness had been broken. The discount was much lower. However, he didn't enjoy the rest of his life. Some people did good things all their lives, but the result was not good. He had done a lot of bad things in his life in the past, and he would suffer a lot. Because he had made a lot of good things in his life, but they were not completely made up. So he was still punished. Cause and effect are connected for three lifetimes. If you know this truth, you won't doubt it.
After ten years of learning Buddhism, he still lacked confidence. What was the reason? She didn't listen much. There were too many such things. There were too many things to share with her. She focused on her daily work. There were too many social engagements. So it was not easy to understand the Scriptures. I've been listening to the Scripture for a lifetime, but I still can't understand it. What was the reason? I believe you know it yourself. I have been lecturing for so many years. Do you understand? If you understand, you won't ask these questions. You are just as confused as [陈晓旭] when you asked these questions.
I often tell you that for decades. If a person wanted to learn Buddhism, he had to put aside his selfishness, fame and fortune, the five desires and six dusts, and the greedy and slow release. Only in this way could you understand and understand. There were many people who listened to the Buddhist scriptures. How many people could let it go? She understood what he meant. She understood that she could match the Buddhism in daily life. That was to say, he could solve it. He wanted to make the Buddhist method work. If you can't put it down, this is the most serious obstacle. You can't get in the first test. So he had learned Buddhism for ten years, twenty years, thirty years. They were all outside the Buddha's door and didn't come in. This was the truth. Every classmate, whether at home or at home, should know. Otherwise, he would have no chance to learn Buddhism in his life.
Second, it was said that Jasper had personally filmed the Shanxi yard, but why didn't she get through the cancer?

I don't know if she filmed the Shanxi yard or not. I don't know.
Then he was confident about those who had cancer in Shanxi courtyard. [晓旭], she was not confident when I took care of her for so many days. She didn't know how to repent or feel grateful. As she said, she couldn't be grateful or repentant. His willpower was not strong enough, so his willpower was very weak. The most important thing was that he didn't have confidence. We talked too much in the [大乘] sect. After persuading her face to face, he didn't know how many words he had tried to persuade her. You should miss the Buddha and the Bodhisattva. He wanted to be taught how to use great methods and save lives. She wanted to help them stay here for a long time. This was the real thought. It was good for her. She didn't want to think about it. I've been thinking about it all day long. Can I recover from this disease? That's it. What she thought was negative. The Buddha and the Bodhisattva couldn't help. The Buddha and the Bodhisattva can help. You can't have any negative thoughts. So it was not easy to believe in Buddhism.
Master Tao Yi talked about the wishing spell of the pure sect in the Sutra of Buddha. The first one was a letter. He told her six letters. The first one was to believe himself. The second one was to trust him. He was the [释迦牟尼] Buddha and the [阿弥陀佛] Buddha. He had no confidence in the letter. Now that she lost her confidence, she could trust him. When we are sick, we often say that we should believe in Buddhism, Buddhism and teachers. If she is not confident, there is no way out. Even a Buddhist monk can't help her. We feel very regretful.
At the same time, she was not that lucky. But there was still too much interference. Half of the interference was from the enemy. There are a lot of people. We have at least dozens of them. Then let's try to persuade him. It's still effective. He tried to persuade them to leave in batches. Without her, she felt relaxed and comfortable. When one possessed a body, one's body would be hard. Everything would be fine after she left. But in the end, there were still a few of them. Those men might be too resentful. She refused to leave no matter how hard she tried. So you don't know the situation here. After you know the situation, she will teach us a lot.
We have seen this and realized that we can't be sick or die in this life. Why couldn't she die? He couldn't die like this. It was the same as what the old monk had told him. It was like what Mr. Di had said that there was no master in the bliss temple. Then the [老太太] we visited in the general's hometown of Taiwan also saw an old monk in San Francisco. Until now, he didn't get sick and left. That's right. We have seen and heard these people with our own eyes. We have to follow his example. [黄忠昌], who was reborn in Shenzhen, was also the best example. She had been cultivating in seclusion for two years and ten months. Now that she didn't get sick, she left. It was important. She couldn't get sick or go to the hospital. This was the real achievement.
Then you have to ask why these people have such great achievements? Nothing else. If you really let it go, the creditor won't look for you anymore. In other words, you haven't let her go yet. Put it down. He admires you. He admires you. [陈光别], the elder of [老林], who used to be in Singapore, was reborn. He's gone. Our classmates in the training class will help him. When he came back, there were about more than 100 enemies of [老林]. More than 100 spirits followed them to the forest of elders. He sent a message that he was really reborn. When they saw it, they were very happy and praised. They said that we were his enemy in debt. Seeing this, we won't make trouble. Now we come here with the witchers. I hope you can promise us to be a believer. He came here to seek refuge. After we became a believer, they said that we wanted to listen to the Scriptures in the forest. Our grandmaster is preaching every day. He said that the light in the hall was too big for them to bear. In the end, they asked to eat in the restaurant. In the dining room, the wishing Scripture of Bodhisattva was designated on TV. It would be played day and night for a month. They had left for a month. It seems that we have been practicing the Scripture for a month and a half, and it has been two months. You are really a successful man. Then you won't get into trouble.
So it was not easy to learn Buddhism. She was a mature woman. Only when they were truly close to each other, could they let go of each other, could they see through each other, and could they understand each other. So she had a good life this time. She had taught a lot of people, and all of them had learned her lesson in front of her. Everyone was alert.
Third, I heard that she only took a little Chinese medicine during her illness and refused to be treated with western medicine. Was this too persistent to separate? Or was it because she had put down the world law too late?
The space deployer replied
You should know these things well. So I hope this common sense can help you study traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine thoroughly in the next few years. You will understand. We have hired a good doctor to take care of her. They had seen hundreds of people.
The fourth question was that Jasper went out in February. She had made up her mind to be an educator of multi cultural obligation for the rest of her life. Although she hadn't been a nun for a long time, she had been cultivating at home for seven or eight years, and she had contributed a lot to Buddhism. Why couldn't he get what he wanted from his master.
The space deployer replied
I hope you can come to me and I will explain it to you in person. I can't finish this sentence in two hours. I have to tell you for three or four days.
If you want to know the truth, this monk has been staying at home for decades after taking the three jars of rings. Why couldn't she be reborn in the end when she cultivated? Or with the karma? Too many. Do you know it yourself?
When I was studying Buddhism, Teacher Li warned me. I used to talk about it when I preached the sutras. I took the great precept and went to Taichung to see his old man. After this ordination I must go back to worship my teacher. Before I even entered the door, I was outside the door and he was still far inside, he pointed at me, "You have to believe in Buddha! You have to believe in Buddha!" He said a dozen times. I walked in and was baffled. I studied Buddhism for seven years and became a monk. I was ordained for two years. I also taught for two years in a Buddhist college. When the teacher saw me and told me to believe in Buddhism, I was dumbfounded. After I sat down, I was stumped, and I thought, "What does the teacher mean by that? The teacher told me, "You are now a great preceptor and you are teaching in a Buddhist college. You should know that there have been many old monks who have taken the precepts since ancient times, not today, but in ancient times. When they were 70 or 80 years old, they still did not believe in Buddhism at the end of their lives. The more I talk about it, the more confused I am. How can he become a monk if he doesn't believe in Buddhism? How can he learn to teach? How could he teach? How could he teach the scriptures? In the end, the teacher told me, "What does it mean to believe in Buddha? I don't want to talk about anything else, but about something very simple. Buddha told you not to kill, have you done it? Buddha told you not to steal, have you done it? Buddha told you not to lust, have you done it? Buddha told you not to drink alcohol, have you done it? Have you done it? The five precepts, I didn't do them. I didn't do it, I didn't believe in it. Then it dawned on me.
So believing in the Buddha is to follow the teachings. After listening to the Buddha's teachings, you can say but not do, so you don't believe. You know how difficult it is to believe in this word. Believe and decide to be effective. If it is not effective, you should reflect on it yourself. Only then do you realize that the word "faith" is not an easy thing. In the Avatamsaka Treatise on Great Wisdom, it is said that faith is the mother of merit and virtue. If you have pure faith, you will have realities. If this faith is really pure, there is no doubt, there is no mixture. What kind of person is this person? --The primordial Bodhisattva, the Dharma Bodhisattva. The standard of faith is here. So faith, there is superstition and there is correct faith. True faith is to have understanding and action, and to truly believe. True faith is the only thing that works.
Donation is the cultivation of blessings. You do good deeds is to cultivate blessings. Blessing cannot save life and death. This is what the Sixth Patriarch said in the Tantras, this matter, blessing cannot save. This is the matter of the six paths of rebirth and death, no matter how great the blessing can not save. But what is it? No matter which path you are in, you have blessings, you still enjoy blessings. In the hungry ghost path, he is also a rich ghost, he has blessings. When there is no blessing, he suffers. When a celestial being has no blessings, he is suffering, not as much as a person who has blessings on earth. We have read about this in the classics.
Therefore, you ask why she cannot fulfill her wish to spread the Dharma and benefit sentient beings. It's a great pity that her wish to spread the Dharma and benefit sentient beings is not strong. What is this? Too little knowledge of the Dharma. Too little work on the Dharma. This is a truth to understand. Be clear. Don't let this student of Buddhism develop a retreat. When we see this situation, our faith is stronger. Our alertness is higher. Only then do we know what her problem is.
I am not as good as her in any way. I have a life expectancy of forty-five years, as I have reported to you many times. I was able to turn it around, so I believe she will be able to turn it around. She can't work with me, and I ask her for four things. The first is strong faith. The second one is repentance. The third is gratitude. The fourth one is full of aspiration. These four are not in place. There is no way to do this. No one can help her. Can you help her? You can't help her. It's her business. You want to send it, it's yours, she can't get it. So you have to do it yourself. If you can't do it, you're not as good as Chen Xiaoxu when you go in the future. That's the truth I'm telling you.
Q: Fifth, in her declaration of monkhood, she wanted to inherit the Buddhist teachings and was ordered by her teacher to go into seclusion for ten years to study the Chinese tradition of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. To dedicate her life to Buddhism and to renew the wisdom of Buddha. How great is the breadth of heart, why can't she turn this karma?
Venerable Jingkong replied.
She has a big heart in her mouth, but a small heart in her heart. That's the truth. If the mind and mouth correspond, the effect will be produced. Her mind and mouth do not correspond, (so there is no effect). It's definitely not that Buddhism is a lie, it's not true.
When I was in my thirties, the vows I made were fulfilled. So the year I was forty-five, I was sick for a month. I knew that life expectancy was up. At that time, the curator Han took care of me. I told her that I should not see a doctor when my life span was up, because doctors can cure diseases but not lives. So I didn't take any medicine and I didn't see a doctor. I prayed to Buddha to seek rebirth in the Pure Land. I chanted for a month, and my body slowly got better. Until now, I have never been sick in my life.
The year before last, when I was seventy-nine years old, I was in Beijing, staying in a hotel. I fell ill for four days. I told my classmates that I saw Shakyamuni Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, Vijayana Buddha, and Kuan Shi Yin Bodhisattva. The size of the statue was as big as the void. Although the statue was so big, it was very clear to see. It was exceptionally clear. I think I have reached the end of my life. From the age of forty-five to seventy-nine, I had already lived more than thirty years. I said, I should go now. I also heard someone next to me, but I didn't turn around, telling me behind my back, "Do you have any more concerns? Do you still have any worries? Is there anyone else you want to meet? Anyone you want to meet? I said nothing. I've let go of everything. I said that my whole life, as Master Zhangjia told me, was arranged by Buddha and Bodhisattva. I very much want to go with Amitabha. But if I am asked to help suffering beings in this world again, I said it is okay, no hindrance. By the next day, I was well. On the third day, I returned to Hong Kong and after two weeks of recovery, I began to preach again.
Xiaoxu can't have the same kind of heart as me. You have to be sincere about this. It's not about emotions. Emotions won't solve the problem. And it's about doing good deeds. The kind of mind you have when doing good deeds has a lot to do with it. If you do it reluctantly, if you are persuaded to do it (you are persuaded to do it, you do it yourself), and if you have to discount it, it is not a great blessing.
So you must have a long time with her, you know her completely, and at the same time understand the Dharma, and then you understand it all in your heart. I hope you see this, you have to refine, you have to really do it. You can't say that your heart and mouth are not the same, then your future blessing is not as good as hers. That's far worse.
Q: Some nembutsu practitioners feel that their practice of mindfulness is not as good as that of Jushi Chen. If she can't be reborn, don't we have even less hope?
Venerable Jingkong answers.
This is wrong. If you think this way, then I tell you, you will definitely not be able to pass on to the next life. The next life is in faith. Moreover, when one's luck is failing, all the debtors from past lives will come to you. Can you pass this hurdle? If you can't pass it, it's a serious obstacle.
Q: One last question. I have never wavered in my faith in Buddhism. But seeing Chen Xiaoxu's passing away, I feel more frustrated and bewildered than ever. I would like to ask Srila Prabhupada for his compassionate enlightenment to help fellow practitioners to strengthen their faith. Do not give up.
Venerable Jingkong replied.
You have made a very good point in these few words. Then, any problem must be really to understand the truth. If you don't know the truth, and you look at things with your own misconceptions, we also talked about the "three measures" this morning, and you are in the "non-measure" category. This will really mislead you. It can also mislead others. However, even if it is misleading, it is still the ancient saying of the great masters, "All laws are empty, but cause and effect are not empty". Each person has his own cause and effect. You are responsible for your own cause and effect.

问:近日听到陈晓旭居士病逝的消息,感到震惊。下面提了七个问题。陈居士已学佛十年,生前曾对佛教进行很多捐助,为何落得这样结果?
净空法师答:
结果你没有看到。你要看到了就正常。她的结果不算坏,相当殊胜。
这个,在病情严重的时候,三百多人给她助念。日夜佛号不停止。这种福报连一般老法师都不可能有。这个是稀有难逢的因缘。而学佛不一定在时间的长短。有人学佛几十年,有人学佛一辈子,到死的时候依旧手忙脚乱,无所是从,很多啊。对于佛教的很多捐助,并不是说有很多捐助,她的业障就消了。那就太容易了。有钱的人业障就消掉了,穷人就消不掉,也许你认为那这太不公平了。
这个学佛最重要的是信心啊。那么我在此地跟你总的说一句,晓旭病重的时候,我跟常慧法师都在她面前照顾。我们尽了全心全力,使她的病痛减轻。这个我们看到了。象这种病痛,一般人受的是十分,她只受了一分。九分佛菩萨给她化解了。难得,很不容易啊。那她为什么转不过来呢?第一个是信心不够。人有业障。这她自己很清楚,业障很重,业障是她过去生中生生世世累积的,不是这一世的啊。这一世没有造业,前世造了。
所以三世因果,诸位必须要明了。为什么这一生是好人,他得的是恶报。这一生是恶人,他居然享福。所以很多人看到这个现象不相信因果。这一生造恶,他前世余福太厚了,所以你没有看到他的恶报。前世造的这个福,他可以享两百年的福,但是这一生中他造作的恶业,他可以享六七十年的福,那个福已经折掉了。打折扣,折掉很多了。可是,他的余福没享完。有人一生做好事,果报并不好。过去生中造的不善业太重了,他有余殃啊。因为他这一生中造的很多好事,弥补了很多,但是还是没有弥补到完,完全。所以他还是受业报。因果通三世,你了解这个道理,了解这个事实真相,你就不怀疑了。
学佛十年,信心依然不足。这个原因是什么呢?听经太少。这个事物太多。这个事物太多,分她的心啊。精神都照顾在日常事业上。还有应酬太多。所以真正听经,真正听的懂,可不是容易事情啊。听经听一辈子还不懂啊。这什么原因呢?我相信你自己晓得。我讲经讲这么多年,你有没有听懂?如果你听懂了,你不会提这些问题。你提这些问题说明,你跟陈晓旭一样没听懂。
我常常讲,讲了几十年。一个人要学佛,必须把自私自利放下,名闻利养放下,五欲六尘享受放下,贪嗔痴慢放下,你才能听的懂,你才能契入。学佛的人,听经的人多,几个人能放下?能放下的,她听的懂。听明白了,她在日常生活当中能与佛法相应。也就是说,他能解能行。得佛法真实受用啊。如果这个放不下啊,这个是最严重的障碍,第一关你进不去。所以学佛十年,二十年,三十年。都在佛的门外,没有进来,这是事实真相。每一个同学,无论在家出家都应该懂得。否则的话,这一生,虽学佛也是空过。
问:第二,据说陈居士曾亲自拍摄《山西小院》,可她自己却为何没有度过癌症病魔这一关?
净空法师答:
《山西小院》是不是她拍的我不知道,我不晓得这个事情。
那么《山西小院》那些癌症的人,他有信心。晓旭,我照顾她那么多天的时候,她没有信心。她不知道忏悔,她不知道感恩。这她自己说的,感恩的心,忏悔的心,总是生不起来。愿力不足,有发愿,愿力很脆弱。那最关键的是,是自己没信心。我们在大乘教里讲的太多。当面劝她,不知道劝了多少句,一切法从心想生。你要想佛,想菩萨。想经教,想宏法利生。想帮助正法久住。这是正念啊。对她有好处啊,她不想这些。一天到晚想,我这个病能好吗?这就完了。她所想的是负面的,佛菩萨帮不上忙啊。佛菩萨能帮上忙,你是有正念,你不能有负念。所以信佛不是件容易事情。
藕益大师在《弥陀要解》里面,讲到这个净宗的信愿行。第一个是信。信,他讲了六个。头一个是信自。第二个是信他。他,是释迦牟尼佛,是阿弥陀佛。那晓旭对这个没有,对信字没有自信心。自信心没有了,信他还可以。病中还常常念着,我们要信佛,要信佛法,要信老师。她没有自信就没有法子了,佛法僧都帮不上忙,我们感到很遗憾。
同时呢,她的外缘并不是很好。就是干扰还是太多。这个干扰里面有一半是冤亲债主,冤亲债主附身。人数不少,我们在旁边观察,至少有几十个。那我们做劝解,劝解还是有效。劝解几次,分批,一批一批离开。离开她,她身体就感到很轻松,很舒服。在附体的时候,身体都是硬的。离开之后就好了。可是最后还是有几个。那几个可能是怨恨太深。怎么劝都不肯离开。所以你不了解这里面的情形啊,那你了解这些情形之后,她给我们的教训很大。
我们看了这个现象,自己警觉到,这一生决定不能生病,决定不能死。怎么说不能死呢?不能象一般这个死法。要象谛闲老和尚讲的锅炉匠。要象谛老说的极乐寺的修无师。那么我们在台湾将军乡看的老太太,在美国旧金山也是看到一位老居士,预知时至,没有生病,说走就走了。这就对了。这些人有我们亲眼看到的,亲耳所闻的,我们要以他做榜样。在深圳念佛往生的黄忠昌,也是最好的榜样。闭关念佛两年十个月,预知时至,没有生病,走了。这个重要啊。不可以生病啊,不可以进医院啊。这个才是真正的成就。
那你要问,这几个人为什么有这么殊胜的成就呢?没有别的,身心世界一切放下。真的放下了,冤亲债主也不找你了。冤亲债主还能找到你身上,换句话说,你还没有放下啊。你放下,他佩服你啊,他赞叹你啊。过去在新加坡,居士林的老林长陈光别往生。他走了,我们培训班的同学去给他助念。回来的时候,老林长的冤亲债主啊,大概有一百多人。一百多个灵啊,跟着这些法师到居士林来。传递讯息,林长真的往生了。他们看到了,很欢喜,很赞叹,说我们是他的冤亲债主,看到这个样子,我们也不会找麻烦了。现在我们跟着法师到居士里来,希望居士林答应我们,给我们做皈依。他来求皈依的。皈依完了之后,他们说,我们希望能在居士林听经。我们居士林讲堂天天讲经。他说讲堂的光太大,他们这些众生受不了。最后要求在餐厅。餐厅里用电视,指定《地藏菩萨本愿经》。要日夜不停的播放,一个月。一个月他们离开了。好象我们这个地藏经播了一个半月,还是两个月的样子。你真有成就,冤亲债主慈悲心就生起来了,不找麻烦了。
所以学佛不是容易事情。宿世善根成熟。真正亲近善友,能放下,能看破,能契入才得受用。所以她这次往生不错啊。教了很多很多人,这些人在她面前都受了她的教训。各个提高警觉。
问:第三,听说她在生病期间只吃一点中药,而拒绝西药治疗。这是否过分分别执着,还是她对世法放下的太晚?
净空法师答:
这些事情你要真了解才行,你不了解不知道。那么中药西药,希望这个常识啊,你做一点工夫,下个几年工夫彻底去研究。你才会了解。我们给她请了很好的医生,照顾她。通通都做到了,看到的人几百人啊。
问:第四个问题,陈居士二月出家。发愿下半生要做一名多元文化义务工作教育工作者。她出家虽短,但在家修行也有七八年了,且对佛教事业捐献甚丰。又亲近师父,为什么不能达成宏法的心愿。
净空法师答:
我希望你到我这来,我亲自给你说明。这个话我要给你讲起来两个小时讲不完。要跟你讲个三四天。
你要想知道这个问题,现在这个出家人,受了这个三坛大戒,出家几十年。为什么修行的时候,到最后还是不能往生?还是随着业力转?太多了。你自己知不知道?
我学佛的时候,李老师就警告我。我讲经的时候曾经讲过。我受了大戒,到台中去看他老人家。这受戒之后一定回去拜老师。还没进门,我在门外他在里面还很远,他就指着我,“你要信佛!你要信佛!”说了十几声。我走进去以后莫名奇妙。我学佛七年出家。出家两年受戒。我还教了两年佛学院。老师一见我叫我信佛,我都呆了。我坐下来之后,我就楞住了,我心想,老师说这话是什么意思。老师跟我讲,你现在是受了大戒了,也教佛学院了。你要晓得,出家受戒的老和尚自古以来,不是今天,古时候就很多。到七八十岁,临命终时还不信佛。越讲我越糊涂啊,他怎么不信佛呢?不信佛怎么出家呢?怎么学教?怎么讲经呢?到最后老师告诉我,什么叫信佛啊?不讲别的、多的了,讲很简单的。佛叫你不杀生,你做到了没有?佛叫你不偷盗,你做到了没有?佛叫你不淫欲,做到了没有?佛叫你不饮酒,做到没有?不妄语。五戒啊,没有做到。没有做到,不信啊。我这才恍然大悟。
所以信佛是依教奉行。听了佛的教诲,能说不能行,不信啊。你才晓得,信这个字多难。信,决定有效。没有效,自己好好反省,不信啊。你才知道这个信字可不是容易事。华严《大智度论》里面说,信为道源功德母。信心清净,则生实相。如果这个信心,真正达到清净,一丝毫疑惑没有,一丝毫夹杂没有。这个人是什么人呢?——初住菩萨,法身大士了。信心的标准在这里。所以信,有迷信,有正信。正信是有解有行,真正做到是真信。真信才管用啊。
捐献是修福。你做好事是修福报。福,不能救生死。这个六祖在坛经里面说的,此事,福不能救。此事就是六道轮回生死的事情,再大的福报都不能救。但是什么呢?无论在哪一道的时候,你有福报,你还是享福。就在饿鬼道,他也是多财鬼,他有福报啊。福报没有的时候,他苦啊。天人没有福报,他很苦啊,还不如人间有福报的人。这个我们在经典里读过。
所以说,你问为什么不能了达弘法利生的心愿。她弘法利生的心愿不坚固,非常可惜。这个就是什么呢?闻法太少。在佛法上下的工夫太少。这个道理要懂。要明了。不要让这个学佛的人产生了退心。我们看到这个情形,我们的信心更坚定。警觉性更高。才知道她的问题出在哪里。
我在任何一方面都不如她。我的寿命四十五岁,跟诸位报告很多次了。我能够转的过来,所以我相信她一定能转的过来。她不能跟我配合,我要求她就是四个。第一个信心坚定。第二个忏悔。第三个感恩。第四个愿力发足。这四个都不到位。这个没法子啊。没有人能帮她忙啊。你能不能帮她呢,你帮不上。这她的事情。你要发,是你的,她得不到。所以必须自己要做到啊。如果你要是做不到,你将来走的时候还不如陈晓旭。这是我跟你讲的真话。
问:第五,她在出家声明中要承传佛法,承师命闭关十年,研究儒释道中华传统。为佛教奉献终身,续佛慧命。心量之广,何等伟大,为什么不能转这个业力?
净空法师答:
她这个口里的心量很大,心里的心量很小。就这么个道理。心口要相应,就产生效果。她心口不相应,(所以没有效果)。绝对不是说佛法是骗人,是假的。
我在三十几岁的时候,我发的愿兑现了。所以我四十五岁那一年,生一个月的病。我知道,寿命到了。那个时候韩馆长照顾我。我跟她讲寿命到了,不要看医生,医生能治病,不能治命。所以,我也不吃药,也不看医生。念佛求生净土。我念了一个月,身体慢慢好起来了。一直到现在,我一生没生过病。
前年七十九岁时候我在北京,住在旅馆里面。病倒了,病了四天。我给同学们说过,我见到释迦牟尼佛,见到阿弥陀佛,见到毗卢遮那佛,见到观世音菩萨。身像之大,跟虚空一样。虽然那么大的像,可是看的很清楚。异常清楚。我想我寿命到了。从四十五岁到七十九岁,也已经多活了三十多年。我说,我应该走了。我还听到旁边有人,但是我没有回头,在我背后跟我讲,你还有没有牵挂的?还有没有顾虑的?还有没有想见的人啊?想跟他见一面的?我说什么都没有。我通通放下了。我说我的一生,章嘉大师告诉我的,佛菩萨安排的。我非常希望跟阿弥陀佛走。可是如果要我再帮助这个世间苦难众生,我说也可以,没妨碍。到第二天,我病就好了。第三天,我回到香港,养了两个星期,我又开始讲经。
晓旭不能象我这样发心啊。这个要发真心啊。不是感情用事啊,感情用事解决不了问题啊。而且就是做善事,做善事的时候当时用什么样的心态,关系都很大。勉强做的,别人劝导做的(劝你做,你自己才做),还要打点折扣,这都不是修大福报。
所以你必须要跟她有一段长时间相处,你对她完全了解,同时对佛法了解,然后你就心里全都明白了。希望你看到这样,你要精进,你要真正做到。你不能够说是心口不一,那你将来的福报不如她。那差远了。
问:有些念佛人,感觉到自己的行持发心还不如陈居士。若是她都不能往生,我们不是更没希望了吗?
净空法师答:
这个错了。你如果这样想呢,那我告诉你,你肯定不能往生。往生在信心。而且,人到运衰的时候,宿世过去生中怨亲债主都来找你。这一关你能不能通过?你要不能通过,那是严重的障碍。
问:最后一个问题。我从来不曾动摇过对佛法的信仰。可是看到陈晓旭的往生,我感到了前所未有的沮丧和茫然。恳请老法师慈悲开示,帮助同修们坚定信心。勿生退却。
净空法师答:
你这个几句话说的很不错。那么,任何问题都要真正去了解事实真相。你对事实真相不了解,你自己凭自己的错误的观念来看事情,我们今天上午还讲到“三量”,你这是属于“非量”。这个确确实实会误导你自己。也会误导别人。但是,纵然是误导了,也是古大德讲的一句话,“万法皆空,因果不空”啊。每个人有每个人自己的因果啊。因果要自己负责任。
