Buddhists question: Do Buddhists have to give up their existing life enjoyment?
Learning Buddhism is the wisdom of learning Buddhism. Wisdom is full of talents, such as living, working, and doing Buddhist things, such as living, living, and living!
---Zhuge Changqing
Do Buddhists have to give up the enjoyment of their existing life? We should treat this problem dialectically. The enjoyment without purpose should be abandoned; Reasonable enjoyment must be maintained.
Buddha wants gold clothes, which are for all living beings to see; Clothes are for people at a certain social level. The enjoyment itself is the identity, status and position of the representative. Enjoyment is a polite and solemn expression in occasions and environments that require dignity and etiquette, such as material conditions. However, under the circumstances of poor material conditions, weak economic capacity and poor social environment, even if you have the ability and material resources, you should also give up all your enjoyment and share the difficulties with the public, such as Gandhi in modern India.
In today's society, for reasons of politeness or safety, people must dress neatly and use private cars in certain occasions, certain environments or meeting certain people; There are daytime gowns in the daytime and evening gowns in the evening. In Japan and Europe and the United States, there are certain forms and colors of gowns for funerals, weddings and all kinds of formal gatherings. They are also not allowed to wear work clothes, nightwear and casual clothes at home. These are not enjoyment.
Buddha attaches importance to cause and effect, and the blessings of this life come from the almsgiving after death. Enjoying the fortune report is like drawing deposits from banks. The more you draw, the less you deposit, and there will always be a time to withdraw; The more you enjoy in this life, the less you have left for your blessings. On the one hand, we should continue to cultivate our blessings, and at the same time, we should cherish our blessings, so as to achieve the perfection of our blessings; Otherwise, even if there are blessings, there are also shortcomings.
Therefore, from the beginning of primitive Buddhism, it has been advocated that bhikkhus should have nothing: one is to avoid greed, the other is to cherish happiness, and the third is to reduce the attachment to the body; This is true for the monks, but also for the family members.
A monk monk should abide by the precepts of not wearing fragrant flowers, not smearing himself with fragrant oil, not singing and dancing, not looking and listening for no reason, not sitting and lying in a large bed, not wearing hand ornaments, and not storing silver and treasures. If the family members can do it, in addition to the money they must use, they should also abide by it; If it can't be observed, I hope that in the six days of a month, I will take the so-called six fasting days to compare with the life of a monk, and the purpose is to cherish the blessings and give up the enjoyment. The so-called enjoyment content should include food, use, living, sitting, sleeping, carrying and various entertainment facilities. That is to say, throttling is more important than open source. Giving is to open source for blessings, and giving up enjoyment is to throttle for blessings.
However, Sakyamuni Buddha's body has 32 kinds of adult appearance, which is a kind of blessing, solemnity and wisdom. It is said that Sakyamuni Buddha also received the gift of golden cassocks, and was also given to the lonely elders to pave the ground with gold, and bought a garden house to provide for the Buddha. At that time, the elders of Fude used good and delicious food when offering Buddhist monks, and solemnly decorated the refined houses and places for Buddhist monks; Many famous sayings later became famous gardens and gardens in the history of Buddhism.
The pure land of Buddha seen from the Buddhist scriptures, such as the Pure Land of Buddha in the West, the Maitreya Pavilion in the Huayan Sutra and the palaces of the great bodhisattvas seen by the fifty-three sans of the good fortune boy, are all magnificent and extremely solemn, that is, the great blessing, the blessing is with their lives, and is expressed in their wealth; It seems that the poor people are ugly and have rough skin, while the rich people are dignified and have smooth skin. This is their inborn blessing. It has nothing to do with giving up or coveting enjoyment.
By enjoyment, we should mean to covet personal appetites, eat rare foods such as delicacies and delicacies, not to treat guests or be polite, but to show one's wealth; Or dress up, make up, and dress deliberately to make others envy and notice, to satisfy their vanity; Or, for the enjoyment and stimulation of official functions, go to the so-called entertainment places such as song pavilions, dance halls, brothels and so on, indulge in leisure and spend money like dirt. These behaviors should be abandoned by Buddhists.
