My daughter is critically ill and will be cured by releasing her life

女儿病危　放生即愈 

Xue Hongfa, a native of Anhui Province, served on the Shanghai-Nanjing Railway (renamed the Beijing-Shanghai Road after the establishment of the Nationalist Government in Nanjing) and was a great believer in Buddhism. In the summer of 1929, his youngest daughter, Wen Ying, became dangerously ill and saw many doctors, but nothing could be done.

   Finally, one doctor said that she should use four live carp gall bladders and two snails, pound them with other medicines and put them on her belly button to give her hope. The family listened to him and was preparing to do it when Xue Jun came home from work and said to the family, "My daughter has reached this point in her illness, so why kill another life?]

   After saying these words, he went to the Buddha Hall, prayed to the Bodhisattva Guan Yin, chanted the Great Compassion Mantra seven times, and then held the water with the Great Compassion Mantra and instructed his family to use the water to make medicine. She then gave her the water of great compassion and drank it. The next morning, she vomited up a blood clot as big as a peach nut and was cured of her illness.

   From this time onwards, the whole family was grateful to Goddess of Mercy for her great kindness and were able to worship and chant mantras with devotion.

薛鸿发安徽人，在沪宁铁路（国民政府在南京成立后改称京沪路）服务，他极信仰佛法，在上海“世界佛教居士林”担任放生部事务。一九二九年夏天，他的小女儿文英得了很危险的病症，看过许多医生，都无办法。

   最后一个医生说，要用活鲫鱼胆四个，田螺肉两个，和另外的药捣烂，敷贴肚脐上面，还可以有希望。家里人听他话买好正在准备做，刚好薛君下班回家，知道这回事，就对家人说：“我女儿病已经到了这个地步，何必再杀别的生命，冤冤相报，一直无终了时候，再说有病难好，正需要戒杀放生，才可以得到佛力救助。”]

   说完话自己到佛堂，虔心祈求观音菩萨，同时持念大悲咒七遍，再持大悲咒水，吩咐家里人用这水来调药，一方面将鲫鱼田螺放在佛像前，替它们忏悔宿业以后，自己提着到新闸桥下河里放生，一边走一边口中念诵观士音菩萨圣号，将鱼和田螺放生后回家，就向家人取来所调的药，敷贴女儿肚脐上，再将大悲水给她喝下。当天夜里身上出了大汗，第二天早上，吐出血块一粒像桃仁一样大，病从此就好了。

   由这一次起，全家的人，都感激观音菩萨庇救的大恩，都能够虔诚礼拜诵经持咒。
