What do they do?
The Four Heavenly Kings are the Dharmapalas who selflessly contribute, silently protect Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and protect mankind.
The fourth day of June in the lunar calendar is the day when the four kings of heaven visit the world intensively.
Do you know the word "good weather"?
The origin of this word is also related to the four kings of heaven.
The four great kings of heaven are the king of holding the kingdom in the east, the king of growth in the south, the king of broad eyes in the west, and the king of gossip in the north. Separated in four directions, they are respectively referred to as "tone, wind, smooth and rain", which means that we are protected by the four kings of heaven. The king of heaven in the east holds the lute and is in charge of the tune; The king of growth in the south holds the sword and takes charge of the wind; It is often heard in the north that the king of heaven holds an umbrella and is in charge of rain; The king of the West, who has wide eyes, is in charge of Shun.
Therefore, "favorable weather" was originally called "favorable weather" or "favorable weather".
Later, because we live in southern Zhanbu, the king who is mainly responsible for protecting us is "the king of southern growth." Because "the king of southern growth" represents "wind". So we put the wind first, which is called "favorable weather".
Zhuge Changqing's research found that, in fact, the four kings of heaven have unlimited separation to protect Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism at any time, and those who do good deeds and accumulate virtue at any time.
Whether it is Buddha Sakyamuni, Taoist Laozi, Confucian Confucius, Christian Jesus, Islam Mohammed, they are teaching people to do good and accumulate virtue.
Both ancient and modern sages have said that good deeds and good deeds will be rewarded.
Why do you say that? Because if you do good deeds and accumulate virtue, you will be protected by the boundless Buddha and Bodhisattva, and the four heavenly kings will also be protected at any time.
Let's see: Amitabha. The Vajra Sutra, Dizang Sutra, Tao Te Sutra, Filial Piety Sutra, Koran, Bible, the Four Commandments of the Goddess of God, the Jade Calendar Treasure Note, Yu Jingyi's Encounter with the Kitchen God, the Supreme Emperor's Sensation and other Confucian Buddhist scriptures are all telling the story of good deeds, good deeds and good deeds.
The four heavenly kings protect the prosperity and auspiciousness of mankind, so our "favorable weather" is compared to the country's prosperity and the people's peace.
The four Heavenly Kings, namely the four Vajra, are the four dharmapalas of the Buddha Sakyamuni Buddha, and the dharmapalas of the selfless dedication of the dharmapalas of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.
In every major temple, there is a Heavenly King Hall. The Temple of the Heavenly King generally has four statues of the Heavenly King, which are usually listed on both sides of the first hall of the Buddhist temple, hence the name of the Temple of the Heavenly King.

1. The Eastern Heavenly King: "The Eastern Heavenly King of Holding the Country" --- key
"The King of the Eastern Kingdom": named for its ability to protect the land and maintain the peace of the ashram, it is dedicated to guarding Dongsheng Shenzhou. At the same time, they are numerous and scattered throughout the void law world; Dressed in white, wearing armor, and holding a lute, it shows that he is using music to influence and persuade all living beings to break evil from good. "The king of holding the state", which represents responsibility, is also called "the king of holding the state". Holding is keeping, and the state is the state. Take charge of the affairs of a family. We call it housekeeping; To preside over the affairs of a company is the general manager and chairman of the board; It is the emperor and the president who preside over the affairs of a country. How do we do it? Be responsible for your duties.
Everyone has his own responsibility in the society. If everyone can do his part, he will try his best to be full. This society must be harmonious and the country must be rich and strong.
This is what the Eastern Heavenly King taught us, so it is called the "Heavenly King of Holding the Country".
The Oriental Heavenly King has a lute instrument in his hand, which means that nothing can be done in a hurry. Just like playing the piano, the string of the piano is loose, it can't play, it will break if it is tight. This is to tell us that we should do things in line with the middle way and should not go too fast.
Zhuge Changqing: The King of the Eastern Kingdom --- educate us that we should always pay attention to our speech and behavior, continue to carry forward the good, and always adjust and rectify the bad. Only in this way can we do everything perfectly. Are you good-tempered? Do you honor your parents? Do you do more good deeds? Do you care about others Amitabha, you should constantly adjust yourself!
We are responsible for our duties. We should do just the right thing. Don't overdo it or fail to do it. It will be very successful.
2. Southern king: "Southern growth king" - wind
"The King of Growth in the South": named for its ability to make others grow good roots, specially guarding the southern state of Zhanbu. At the same time, they are numerous and scattered throughout the void law world; Wearing blue, protruding armor and holding a sword, it shows that he is using force to punish evil and protect good. Jian Si Feng.
"The king of growth". It is not enough to do things well within our responsibilities. We should strive for progress every day. If we do not advance, we will retreat. This era is always in progress.
Therefore, the king of growth is telling us that our moral integrity, knowledge, wisdom, talent and ability should be increased, and our living standards should be improved every day.
Buddhism is not out of date. Buddhism is truly progressive and always stands at the front of the times. It is not following the times, it is leading the times. How can we do these two things perfectly? The two heavenly kings in the back taught us the method.
Zhuge Changqing: The king of growth in the south - -- educate us to use the sword of wisdom to cut off our worries and desires, our delusions and attachments, our evil intentions and thoughts, and our various faults. We should be modest, studious, progressive and leaping every day. We should be modest and prudent, and guard against arrogance and rashness.
Amitabha, the king of the south, represents the new and new day, represents the growth.
I have a sword in my hand. This sword is called Huijian. Huijian breaks the worry.
3. Western Heavenly King: "Western Guangmu Heavenly King" --- Shun
"The King of the West with Wide Eyes": named after his ability to observe the world of Kashaga with his clear eyes, he specially guards Hezhou, the western cattle. At the same time, they are numerous and scattered throughout the void law world; Dressed in red and armor, most of the early statues were holding a kind of net called "silk rope", which was specially used to capture the enemy. Now, they are basically shaped as holding a dragon. However, no matter how it is shaped, it shows that his way of punishing evil and protecting the good is not by killing, but by catching the enemy and forcing him to rectify. Clean eyes, nets, and dragons are all smooth.
The Western "King of Wide Eyes" teaches us to see more; The "king of heaven" in the north teaches us to listen more. This is what we Chinese say: "read thousands of books and walk thousands of miles".
Reading is the fundamental knowledge of achievement. Traveling thousands of miles is today's sightseeing, tourism, and investigation. Go and see everywhere. When we see the advantages of others, we adopt them. When we see the disadvantages of others, we improve them. If we can build our own society and build our own country by "sacrificing others' shortcomings and learning from others' strengths", then we will be the most perfect country in the world. The same is true for individuals.
There is a dragon around the Western king. The dragon represents change, all people, everything and everything in the world. It is changeable and changeable. We must see them clearly before we can deal with them.
Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha, Guangmu Tianwang education - we should "learn more, read more, see more of others' advantages, see more of others' strengths, and read more of Confucian, Buddhist, Taoist, and moral scriptures", adapt to the changes of the times and keep pace with the times. Only by adapting to the environment and improving ourselves can we achieve rapid success.
4. The King of Heaven in the North: "The King of Heaven in the North" --- Rain
"The king of the north": named for its famous reputation in all directions, it specially guards Luzhou in the north. At the same time, they are numerous and scattered throughout the void law world; Dressed in green, wearing seven noble armor, equipped with a long knife, holding an umbrella in the right hand, and holding a silver mouse in the left hand, it shows that he is using force to subdue demons and monsters and protect the people's wealth while guiding all beings towards good. Also known as Shi Caitian, it is the god of wealth in ancient India.
The northern king of heaven holds an umbrella in his hand, which is used to cover. In the ever-changing world, there are various kinds of pollution. The umbrella is used to cover, so it should be prevented from being polluted.
It means that we should pay attention to protect our pure heart in the process of learning and hearing.

他们是干什么的?
四大天王,是无私奉献、默默保护儒释道、护佑人类的护法神。
每年农历六月四日,是四大天王集中巡视人间的日子。
大家知道“风调雨顺”这个词语吗?
这个词语的来历也与四大天王有关。
四大天王东方持国天王、南方增长天王、西方广目天王、北方多闻天王。分居四方,分别的简称就是“调、风、顺、雨”,寓意我们受到四大天王保护。东方持国天王执琵琶,掌管调;南方增长天王执剑,掌管风;北方多闻天王执伞,掌管雨;西方广目天王执蛇,掌管顺。
因此,“风调雨顺”,原来叫“调风顺雨”、“调雨顺风”。
后来,由于我们生活在南瞻部洲,主要负责保护我们的天王是“南方增长天王。”由于“南方增长天王”代表“风”。所以我们把风放在第一,叫做“风调雨顺”。

为何这样说呢?因为你行善积德就是天道,就会得到无量佛菩萨善神护佑,四大天王当然也会随时保护。
大家看看:阿弥陀佛。金刚经、地藏经、道德经、孝经、古兰经、圣经、了凡四训、玉历宝钞、俞净意公遇灶神记、太上感应篇等儒释道耶回经典,都在讲述行善积德有福报的故事。
四大天王,护佑人类富贵吉祥,所以我们“风调雨顺”比喻为国泰民安。
四大天王,就是四大金刚,是佛祖释迦牟尼佛的四大护法神,也是儒释道护法神无私奉献的护法神。
各大寺庙里,都有一个天王殿。天王殿一般都有四大天王的塑像,通常分列在佛寺第一重殿的两侧,天王殿因此得名。

东方天王手上拿的是琵琶乐器,代表凡是做事情不可以操之过急。就像弹琴一样,琴的弦松了,弹不了,紧了,就断了。这是告诉我们做事情要合乎中道,不能超之过急。
诸葛长青:东方持国天王---教育我们,要始终注意自己的言谈举止,好的继续发扬,不好的要时刻调整整改,只有这样,才会处事圆满。你脾气好吗?你孝敬父母吗?你多做善事吗?你关心别人吗?.......阿弥陀佛,要不断调整自己啊!
我们负责尽职,要做到恰到好处,不要做太过头了,也不能做不及,这样就非常圆满。
2、南方天王:“南方增长天王”---风
“南方增长天王”:因能使他人增长善根而得名,专门守护南瞻部州。同时分身无数遍布虚空法界;身着青色、突甲胄、持宝剑,表明他是用武力来惩恶护善。剑司风。
「增长天王」。只是把我们职责之内的事情做好还不够,还要天天求进步,不进则退,这个时代是永远在进步。
所以增长天王是告诉我们∶我们的德行要增长,学问、智慧、才艺、能力都要增长、还有我们的生活水准也要天天提升。
佛门是不落伍的,佛门是真正讲求进步,永远站在时代的前端,它不是跟著时代走,它是领导著时代。怎样才能够把这两桩事情做的很圆满呢?后面的两尊天王教给我们方法。
诸葛长青:南方增长天王----教育我们,要用智慧宝剑斩断自己烦恼欲念,斩掉自己的妄想执着,斩掉自己的邪心邪念,斩断自己的各类过错。要谦虚好学、时时进步、天天飞跃。要做到谦虚谨慎、戒骄戒躁。
阿弥陀佛, 南方天王,代表日新又新,代表增长。
手上拿的是剑,这个剑叫慧剑,慧剑断烦恼。
3、西方天王:“西方广目天王”---顺
“西方广目天王”:因能用净眼观察裟婆世界而得名,专门守护西牛贺州。同时分身无数遍布虚空法界;身着红色、穿甲胄,早期塑像多为手持一种名叫“绢索”、专门用来捕捉敌人的网,现在的基本上都塑成手持的是龙。但是不管怎么塑都是表明他惩恶护善的办法不是靠杀,而是把敌人捉起来后强迫他改邪归正。净眼、网、和龙,都司顺。
西方「广目天王」,教我们多看;北方「多闻天王」,教我们多听,这就是我们中国人讲的「读万卷书,行万里路」。
读书是成就根本的学问,行万里路就是今天讲的观光、旅游、考察,到处去看看。看到别人的优点,我们采纳,别人的缺点,我们改进。我们若能「舍人之短、取人之长」,来建造自己的社会,建造自己的国家,那麽在这个世界上,我们将是最完美的国家。对个人而言,道理也是一样。
西方天王身上缠著一条龙,龙代表变化,代表这个世界上的一切人、一切事、一切物,变化无常、变化多端。我们要通通把它们看清楚了,才能够应付。
诸葛长青:阿弥陀佛,广目天王教育---我们要“多学习、看书、多看别人优点、多看别人长处、多看儒释道行善积德经书”,顺应时代变化、时刻与时俱进。顺应环境、提升自己,才会迅速成就。
4、北方天王:“北方多闻天王”---雨
“北方多闻天王”:因福德闻名四面八方而得名,专门守护北俱泸州。同时分身无数遍布虚空法界;身着绿色、穿七宝庄严甲胄、配长刀、右手持伞、左手持银鼠,表明他是一边引导众生向善,一边用武力来降魔伏怪,护持人民财富。又名施财天,是古印度的财神。
北方天王手上拿一把伞,伞是遮盖用的,千变万化的世界,有种种的污染,伞是用来遮盖,要防止不被污染。
它代表我们在广学多闻中,要注意保护自己的清净心。
