This also augurs the rise of the Chinese nation and the inevitable realization of the Chinese dream.

Zhuge Changqing believed that the Chinese culture has a long history because of the silent contribution of countless devotees. I think it will be very happy to see the rejuvenation of the traditional Chinese culture and the founding fathers of the Chinese people, Fuxi Nvwa, the Three Emperors and Five Emperors, the ancient and modern eminent monks and great virtues, the sages and gentlemen, and the emperors.

When it comes to the revitalization of Buddhist culture, the eminent monk of the Ming Dynasty, Master Lianchi, made great contributions.

Master Lianchi has studied Buddhism all his life, lived his own life, vigorously spread the wisdom of Buddhism, such as giving food, releasing life, chanting Buddha, and so on. He has made great contributions to the permanent presence of Buddhist culture in the world. Amitabha, Master Lianchi, you have made great contributions.

Master Lianchi was born in a famous family for generations. His father died at the age of 27, and his mother died at the age of 32. In the forty-fifth year of Jiajing's reign of Emperor Shizong of the Ming Dynasty (1566), Wang Hong, at the age of 32, fell in love with Zen Master Wumen of the Western Hills, and received the concrete precepts under the seat of Zen Master Wuchenyu in Zhaoqing. The master devoted his life to promoting the Pure Land Dharma, presided over the Yunqi Taoism Center for more than 40 years, and guided countless Buddhas to return to the Pure Land by words and deeds. The two sects of Zen and Buddhism are integrated, and the ten covenants are established. The monks regard them as the discipline. In Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty, he was awarded the title of Jingmiaozhen Zen Master. Half a month before his death, he predicted that he would die on a day in July of the forty-third year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Shenzong (1615), chanting the Buddha in peace and quiet. His life span was 81, and the monks were 50.

Master Lianchi has lived in Yunqi Temple for many years, so he is known as Master Lianchi or Master Yunqi. He advocated chanting Buddha and was promoted to be the eighth ancestor of the Lotus Sect; He was also known as the Four Eminent Monks of the Ming Dynasty with Zibai Zhenke, Hanshan Deqing and Ou Yizhixu.

Master Lianchi is a great master who has integrated the doctrine of Zen and purity since the Yongming extension of his life. His main singer is Zen and purity. The master is painfully mindful of all sentient beings in the end of the Dharma. He skims the shadow of the sect door, and there is no pure land, like a crazy image; Teach the lecturer, explain the meaning according to the text, and say that there is not enough food. As for Dharma thinking, there is only one way to recite the Buddha, to cut through life and death, and to take three pictures. So he wrote more than one hundred thousand words of "Amitabha Shuqian" by referring to the Pure Land alone. He always held the Sutra, understood everything, and pointed to one heart. Master Lianchi explained that "one mind is not disordered": one mind is focused on the right situation; Those who are not disorderly do not have delusions. They are not disorderly in their minds, and they are reasonable. As in the previous memory, the chanting is continuous, there are no second thoughts, the faith is achieved, the fame and the matter are one mind, which belongs to the fixed door photography. As in the previous study, knowing, being able to read, and thinking are not two things; Non-existence and non-nonexistence are separated from the four sentences. The achievements of observation and power are obtained from the original mind, and the name and principle are one mind. It belongs to the wisdom, and the delusions die out, so it is determined at the same time. This one mind is the reality, that is, the same with the Dharma world, that is, the determination of the center, that is, the Bodhisattva chants the Buddha Samadhi, that is, the Dharma directly refers to the Zen, that is, the transformation of knowledge into wisdom. I know that chanting Buddha always takes all the Dharma.

Some people questioned the master: "Wise people should understand Zen directly, but now just praise the Pure Land, will there be no clinging to things, not rational?"? The master replied: There are no two ways to return to the original, and there are many ways to facilitate it. Knowing this, the Pure Land of Zen Buddhism can go all the way If you think it is high to say nothing, then those who have a little advantage in capital can read two classics and remember several public cases. Even if they can do it, why bother? Now that you know the pure land everywhere in your heart, I would like to ask you whether you are willing to live in the toilet? Would you like to have a drink on the same troughs of dog graves, cattle and horses? Are you willing to wash, feed and feed people with gamorra disease, pus, blood, excrement and urine? Those who count here are happy and stable, and don't mind a little. Xu Ru said that high mountains and flat lands are always in the west. The other is patience, the other is suspicion, and the other is that the purity is still divided, and the feeling of hatred and love is still there. Instead, he talks about the excessive state of the great sage. He has no Buddha, and despises the past life. It can be said that he deceives the heaven and the people, is willing to be ignorant, and is bitter The Pure Land Method seems shallow and deep, close and far. It seems difficult and easy, and it seems easy and difficult... Today, many people are easy to say that it is difficult to understand, but it is easy to say that life and death. I don't know how difficult it is to understand in this land, which is called "vertical transcendence". As soon as Stu Hanyou came, how about a common man? Most of the sentient beings in this land are from the west and then understand. Born in the West, it is said to transcend the three realms. (Debate on Pure Land)

Master Lianchi used the righteous method to hide and purify the karma, broke the evil view, enlightened the confused, thought-provoking, and made great contributions to the promotion of Jingzong.

1、 Introduction to Master Lianchi

Master Lianchi (1535-1615), also known as Wang Hong, also known as Buddha Hui, also known as Lianchi, has a common surname of Shen and is from Hangzhou. Born in a noble family for generations.

The master was born intelligent and indifferent to the world. At the age of 17, he began to study in school. It is famous for its knowledge and filial piety. Since the age of 27, he has suffered from the loss of his father, son and mother. At the age of 31, he heard the saying that "everything has impermanence", and then realized the impermanence of life. At the same time, he initiated his wish to be born. The four characters of the book "life and death are big" were placed on the desk, with self-warning, and decided to become a monk.

Before becoming a monk, he left his wife and said, "Love is impermanent, life and death are inexplicable, I want to become a monk, take care of yourself." His wife, Tang Shi, said in tears, "You go ahead, I have my own plan." Master Lianchi then made a farewell speech to "Seven Brush Ticks", and went to the Western Hills to become a monk. He shaved his head, and gave Zhaoqing's dust-free lawyer a specific warning, calling himself "Lianchi", to show his will to yearn for the western paradise.

Since then, the master has traveled all over the world and participated in all kinds of good knowledge. Go north to Mount Wutai and feel the light of Manjusri Bodhisattva. Later, he entered the capital, participated in the two elders of Rong and Xiaoyan, and received great enlightenment from them.

When you travel to Dongchang, you suddenly have an understanding, that is to say

"Twenty years ago, it was suspicious. How strange is it to meet you three thousand miles away?

Incense burning and halberd throwing are like a dream, and evil Buddha is fighting for right and wrong. "

When the master was traveling, he was still keeping filial piety for his mother, so he often carried his mother's spirit card in his arms. He must put it up every time he ate and put it up before he went to bed. Such filial piety can be seen! When the master traveled to the Waguan Temple in Jinling (Nanjing), he was almost out of breath and was about to be cremated. Then the master opened his eyes and said, "I still have a breath!" So he could avoid death. During his illness, the master also insisted on meditating. There were five people together, and the master didn't even know the names of others.

2、 Master Lianchi feeds to eliminate the harm of tigers

In the fifth year of Longqing, the master begged all the way to the Wuyun Mountain in Hangzhou, and saw the beautiful and quiet scenery of Yunqi, so he settled down in the hut to live and practice here.

There are many tigers in the mountains, which often hurt the local people. The master was merciful and put "Yoga Flames" on these tigers and chanted sutras and gave food. Since then, tigers have rarely hurt people.

Giving food is immeasurable and powerful.

Sakyamuni Buddha said that continuous feeding is the living Buddha and the living Bodhisattva on earth, and is to achieve great transcendence and great merit. People who continue to give food seem to look at Buddha when they look at him.

Zhuge Changqing believed that Master Lianchi would give food to dissolve the tiger's karma, and if the tiger's own karma was dissolved, it would not come out to harm the world. amitabha. Feeding should conform to the ritual. Beginners can refer to the ritual of Zhuge Changqing and the video of Zhuge Changqing.

So the master got the support of the local people and built a Zen and Dharma Hall for him, which soon became a famous learning jungle.

One year, when there was a severe drought in the Wuyun Mountains, the villagers begged the Master to pray for rain. The Master smiled and said, "I only know how to chant Buddha, and there is no other magic." Under the insistence of the people, the Master had no choice but to hit a wooden fish and walk along the ridge of the field, chanting Buddha while walking. At this time, the rain fell like a note. The villagers were surprised and pleased, so they scrambled to contribute to the construction of the Zen Temple for the master. Since then, the master's Dharma has been greatly improved, and the children in the sea have returned to their hearts, so they have become a jungle monastery, named "Yunqi Temple". Zhuge Changqing believed that Master Lianchi had great merit, great power, and moved the earth, so it was very simple to ask for rain.

3、 Master Lianchi is super intelligent and encourages release

According to legend, Manjusri Bodhisattva once turned into a boy and came to visit Master Lianchi. When the master saw the boy, he asked:

"If you have mud on your feet, you must be a distant guest."

The boy replied, "I smell the water in the lotus pond and come to wash it."

The master said again, "The lotus pond is so deep that I'm not afraid to drown you?"

The boy smiled and said, "Climb the void with two hands and hit the bottom with one foot."

Through the corresponding meditation of the two people, we can also see a spot of the master's Taoism.

In the late period of the Master's deep sorrow, all living beings had deep karma, heavy dirt, declining teaching methods, and unclear Zen. It is not allowed to store the water in the filthy vessels. Therefore, according to the "three principles" set up by Buddhism - precepts, determination and wisdom, in which the establishment of "precepts" is the basis and the "Pure Land" is the guiding principle. He personally straightened out the rules and regulations, and took strict discipline as the first practice. He ordered the monks to read and recite the Fanwang Sutra for half a month, and wrote the Sami Synopsis, the Sutra, the Sutra, and the Sutra of Bodhisattva, explaining the profound meaning of precepts and establishing a model of discipline.

Master Lianchi worships recitation, knows cause and effect, knows sin and blessing, and values true cultivation. Those who cheat the world and steal their names cannot use their tricks. Reward and punish others, and they are as cold as ice. They also try their best to abstain from killing and respect the release of life. Zhuge Chang believed that releasing life can inspire people's compassion, restore their own Buddha nature and Tao, and also change their fate, promote financial fortunes, and accumulate great blessings.

Its "Abstaining from Killing and Releasing Lives" has been widely circulated. There is a release pool in front of the temple where the master lives. There is a release place in the mountain to save all creatures that fly away by stealth. The monks were also influenced by the master and saved grain from their rations to feed animals. In addition, regular Dharma meetings are held to preach the Dharma. Once the birds with the highest singing ability hear the sound of wooden fish in the temple, they can listen to the Dharma quietly, and then spread their wings and fly loudly.

The master's life was simple and simple. He was modest in appearance and was too weak to wear. He sounded like a bell and had no cliff in his chest. We should be prudent and prudent, and believe in frugality. Since the establishment of the ashram, no money has been misused in 50 years. If there is a surplus of incense, it will be given to other temples, and medicine will be given to save the people, repair bridges and roads, and always travel tirelessly. Even in his later years, he washed and cleaned the drowning apparatus by himself and never bothered the waiter. A cloth suit and a linen mosquito net have been used for decades

4、 Master Lianchi is proficient in Buddhism, promoting Dharma and benefiting life

Master Bo Tong is not only the founder of Pure Land Sect, but also the famous monk of Huayan Sect, so he is respected by the scholars of the two sects. Whether it is about Huayan or Zen, the master's creation of harmony is very deep, and his thoughts and interests belong to the Pure Land. He believes that Pure Land Buddhism is not opposed to other sects, so he pointed out in his article, "If people hold the law, the law is the Buddha system, and it is just to recite the Buddha; if they read the scriptures, the scriptures are the Buddha's words, and it is just to chant the Buddha; if they practice Zen, the Zen is the Buddha's heart, and it is just to chant the Buddha, He pointed out in "Essays on Bamboo Windows": "I advocate chanting Buddha all my life, but I also earnestly urge others to read the Buddhist scriptures, because where does the chanting come from? If it wasn't for what the Buddha said and clearly stated in the Buddhist scriptures, how can all living beings now know about the blissful world of Amitabha beyond one hundred thousand billion seconds! Its meditators, on the pretext of not preaching outside the Buddhism, don't know that it is the evil cause to leave the Buddhism to participate in learning, and it is the evil solution to leave the Buddhism to understand..." It can be seen that the master gave strict guidance to those Buddhists who did not pay attention to the scriptures and practiced blindly. The master opened the door of the Pure Land, took three pictures, and strongly advocated "chanting Buddha by name", It is the book "Amitabha Shuqian": "Those who hold the name of the sutra today, respect the name of the book, let alone say it. If they only hold the name of the book, but have one mind, they will be born in that country. It can be said that it is more than simple, more than subtle, more than mysterious, and the path is the path!... It is difficult to observe the Dharma, but the minds of all living beings are mixed, and it is difficult to imagine. The Great Sage is merciful, and directly advised to hold the name of the book, and the good will be easy to be named, and the good will continue to live. This is the most important part of the Pure Land in the past life..." More than 100000 words, understanding the truth, Go straight to the Pure Land.

In the era of the master, the Pure Land Sect was already weak, and the wisdom of all living beings was shallow, so the master spared no effort in his life to reconcile the relationship between the sects, and to promote the Pure Land Sect.

5、 Leave the world with Buddhist wisdom and spiritual wealth.

Half a month before his death, Master Lianchi predicted that he would go to the city to say goodbye to his disciples and old friends. I just told you, "I will go to other places." When I returned to the temple in the mountains, I offered tea soup to the public as a farewell before my death. The master said, "I will not live here any more. I will go elsewhere." In the middle of July, the master set up the "Bonsai Festival" for his ancestors. He went into the Buddhist hall that night and told the public: "Many people never listen to what I said. Now I am like a candle in the wind, and the lights are dry. Some people can believe me only when they stumble one day. So I will go far tomorrow." The public at present asked the master to stay in the world. The master wrote "three regrets" and "ten sighs" to warn the public. The next night, the master went into the abbot's room and showed that he was slightly ill and closed his eyes. When the disciples in the city arrived and surrounded them, the master just opened his eyes and said, "Everyone chant the Buddha honestly! Don't make any mistake, and break my rules!" Then he faced the west and chanted the Buddha, and died at the noon of the fourth day of July in the forty-third year of Wanli.

The master taught all sentient beings all his life and enjoyed a high reputation in the late Ming Dynasty. Among his disciples, there were both monks and disciples at home. There were thousands of them, including senior officials and celebrities. At this time, at the time of the decline of Dharma, the master can revive the lotus wind with his own real practice. For more than 200 years, the legacy remains.

In this regard, Master Hanshan once praised Master Lianchi:

"Only the talent of Master Lianchi is enough to help the world; the understanding is enough to convey the mind; the teaching is enough to fit the root mechanism; the precepts are enough to protect the dharma; the integrity is enough to warn the world; the regulations are enough to cure the current malpractice. If you don't act as a warrior to lighten the darkness of the end of the world, who can do this?"

amitabha. Zhuge Changqing believed that all those who aspire to promote the Dharma and spread the good knowledge of traditional Chinese culture should learn from Master Lianchi and set an example for all living beings.

In addition to the Sutra of Amitabha, the master wrote more than 30 books in his life, including three volumes of the famous "Bamboo Window Essays", five volumes of the "Bodhisattva's Caution, Relaxation and Concealment", one volume of the "Discipline and Enlightenment", one volume of the "Zen Conception Strategy", one volume of the "Jimen's Worship Record", six volumes of the "Water and Land Dharma Meeting Ceremony", and ten volumes of the "Shurangama Touch Elephant Record". Since the master lived in Yunqi Temple in his later years, he was honored as "Master Yunqi" by later generations, and all his works were compiled in "Collection of Yunqi Laws" by later generations.

  国学传统文化的振兴,离不开国家和社会各界奉献努力。

  近些年来,我们国家重视国学传统文化、民间也有无量善知识奉献自己,传播国学传统文化。这也预兆中华民族的崛起和中国梦的必然实现。

  诸葛长青认为,正是有着无量奉献者的默默付出,才有中华文化的源远流长。我想,看到国学传统文化振兴,中华人类始祖伏羲女娲、三皇五帝、古今历代高僧大德、圣贤君子、历代帝王将相等都会十分开心高兴。

  说到佛教文化振兴,明代高僧莲池大师,做了巨大奉献。

  莲池大师一生学习佛法,自度度人,大力传播施食、放生、念佛等佛法智慧,度化无量众生,为佛教文化常驻人间做了巨大贡献。阿弥陀佛,莲池大师,功德无量。

   莲池大师出生于世代望族之家。二十七岁丧父,三十二岁母亦永诀,大明世宗嘉靖四十五年(1566),祩宏三十二岁,投西山无门性天禅师落发,并于昭庆无尘玉禅师座下受具足戒。大师一生致力于弘扬净土法门,主持云栖道场四十余年,言传身教接引无数佛子同归净土。融合禅净二宗,定十约,僧徒奉为科律。清雍正中赐号净妙真修禅师。临终前半月预知时至,于明神宗万历四十三年(1615)七月某日安详念佛而逝,世寿八十一,僧腊五十。

  莲池大师长年居云栖寺,所以世称莲池大师或云栖大师。他提倡念佛风化被于一代,被推为莲宗第八祖;他又和紫柏真可、憨山德清、蕅益智旭,并称为明代四高僧。

  莲池大师是从永明延寿以来,融禅净教律为一体之大成者,主唱禅净不二,念佛含摄万法之旨。大师痛念末法众生,掠影宗门,拨无净土,有若狂象;教下讲师,依文解义,说食不饱。如法思惟,唯念佛一门,横截生死,普摄三根,于是单提净土,著《弥陀疏钞》十余万言,总持圆顿诸经,融会事理,指归一心。莲池大师诠释"一心不乱"云:一心者,专注正境也;不乱者,不生妄念也,一心不乱,有事有理。如前忆念,念念相续,无有二念,信力成就,名事一心,属定门摄。如前体究,了知能念所念,更非二物;非有非无,离于四句,观力成就,获自本心,名理一心,属慧门摄,诸妄消亡,故兼得定。此一心即实相,即同乎法界,即定中之定,即菩萨念佛三昧,即达摩直指之禅,即是转识成智。故知念佛总摄一切佛法。

  有人诘难大师:智人宜直悟禅宗,而今只管赞说净土,将无执著事相,不明理性?大师回答:归元性无二,方便有多门,晓得此意,禅宗净土,殊途同归。……若一味说无相话以为高,则资性稍利者,看得两本经论,记得几则公案,即便能之,何足为难?且汝既了彻自心随处净土,吾试问汝,还肯即厕溷作住止否?还肯就犬冢牛马同槽而饮啖否?还肯洗摩饲哺伽摩罗疾,脓血屎尿诸恶疾人,积年累月否?于此数者,欢喜安稳,略不介意,许汝说高山平地总西方。其或外为忍勉,内起疑嫌,则是净秽之境仍分,憎爱之情尚在,而乃开口高谈大圣人过量境界,拨无佛国,蔑视往生,可谓欺天诳人,甘心自昧,苦哉苦哉!……净土法门,似浅而深,似近而远。似难而易,似易而难……今人多好说参悟,好说了生死,不知在此土了悟甚难,谓之竖超三界。斯陀含犹一往一来,况凡夫乎?此土众生,多是先生西方,然后了悟。生西方一门,谓之横超三界,万无一失。(《净土疑辩》)

  莲池大师以正法眼藏与净业功行,破斥邪见,开导迷茫,发人深省,于净宗的弘扬,厥功甚伟。

  一、莲池大师简介

  莲池大师(1535—1615),又名袾宏,字佛慧,别号莲池,俗姓沈,杭州人。出生于世代为名门贵族。

  大师天生聪颖灵异,淡泊世味。十七岁时,始入学堂学习。以学识及孝道著称于世。从二十七岁起相继受丧父、失子、亡母之苦,三十一岁时,闻听“万物皆有无常”的说法,进而感悟到人生的无常,同时发起出世的愿心,书“生死事大”四个大字立于案头,以自警策,并决意出家。

  出家前,与妻子离别道:“恩爱无常,生死莫代,我要出家,你自保重。”妻子汤氏洒泪言:“君先行一步,我自有打算。”莲池大师于是作《七笔勾》诀后辞行,出家投西山性天和尚剃度,并就昭庆的无尘律师受具足戒,自号“莲池”,以表自己向往西方极乐世界的意志。

  此后,大师云游四方,遍参各大善知识。北游至五台山,感应到文殊菩萨放光。后入京师,参遍融、笑岩两位长老,从中大受启悟。

  游方至东昌时,忽有悟,即作偈:

  “二十年前事可疑,三千里外遇何奇?

  焚香掷戟浑如梦,魔佛空争是与非。”

  大师游方之时,还在为其母守孝,所以怀中常揣有母亲的灵牌,每次吃饭时必把灵牌供起来,睡觉前必把灵牌奉立,如此孝心可见!当大师游方至金陵(南京)瓦官寺时,发病几乎气绝,当时都要被火化了,大师才睁眼微言:“我一息还尚存呢!”这样才免一死。于病中,大师还坚持打禅期,在一起有五个人,大师连他人姓名都不知。

  二、莲池大师施食化解老虎危害

  隆庆五年,大师一路乞食游方至杭州的五云山,见云栖山水色秀丽、幽寂,于是便在此结茅棚居住修行。

  山中多老虎,时常伤害当地百姓。大师心生慈悲,为这些老虎放“瑜珈焰口”,并诵经施食,此后老虎少有伤人之事发生。

  施食,功德无量、威力巨大。

  释迦牟尼佛开示说,持续施食,就是人间活佛、活菩萨,就是做大超度,大功德。持续施食的人,众生看他的时候,仿佛看佛一样。

  诸葛长青认为,莲池大师施食化解老虎业障,老虎自身业障化解了,也就不出来危害人间了。阿弥陀佛。施食要符合仪轨,初学者可以参考诸葛长青施食仪轨、诸葛长青施食视频。

  于是大师得到当地百姓的拥戴,为他建立禅堂、法堂,不久便成为了远近闻名的修学丛林。

  一年,五云山区大旱,村民乞请大师祷雨,大师笑答:“我只知道念佛,并没其他法术。”在众人坚持下,大师不得已,于是击木鱼循走于田埂间,边走边念佛,这时雨随下如注。村民们又异又喜,于是争相出资出力,为大师建造禅堂寺院。自此大师法道大振,海内衲子归心,遂成一丛林道场,取名“云栖寺”。诸葛长青认为,莲池大师功德巨大,威力巨大,感天动地,因而求雨是很简单的事情。

  三、莲池大师智慧超群、鼓励放生

  相传,文殊菩萨曾化为童子,来参访莲池大师,大师见到童子便问:

  “两脚有泥,必是远方客。”

  童子答:“闻知莲池水,特来洗一洗。”

  大师又言:“莲池深万丈,不怕淹死你?”

  童子笑答:“两手攀虚空,一脚踏到底。”

  通过两人的对应禅机,也可见大师道法的一斑。

  大师深悲末时期的众生,业深垢重,教法衰落,禅道不明。绝不能以醍醐水贮于秽器中,所以,根据佛教所设的“三学”——戒、定、慧,其中立“戒”为基本,以“净土”为指归。亲自整饬清规,以精严律制为第一修行,命令僧众以半月为期,读诵《梵网戒经》,并著写《沙弥要略》、《具戒便蒙》、《菩萨戒疏发隐》等,阐发戒学的奥义,建立律制范例。

  莲池大师崇讲诵,明因果,识罪福,重真修。凡欺世盗名者,无可施其伎俩。赏功罚过,凛若冰霜,并极力戒杀生,推崇放生。诸葛长认为,放生可以激发人的慈悲心,恢复自身佛性道心,更可以改命运、促财运,积累大福报。

  其《戒杀放生文》盛传于世,至今尝多有流通。大师所居寺前建有放生池,山中设有放生所,救赎潜游飞走诸生物。众僧也受大师的影响,从各自的口粮中节省下谷物来喂养动物。并且定期开放生法会,宣说佛法,以至善鸣噪的鸟类,一旦听到寺中的木鱼声,都能安静地听法,听后才展翅喧飞。

  大师一生朴实简淡,虚怀应物,貌相温和,弱不胜衣,而声如洪钟,胸无崖岸。明因慎果,自奉俭朴。自建立道场以来,五十年中未曾妄用一钱。凡有香俸盈余,便施给其它寺庙,并施医药救百姓,修桥补路,常行不倦。直至晚年,自己还亲自动手洗衣、净溺器,从不烦劳侍者。终身一袭布衣,一顶麻布蚊帐用了几十年……

  四、莲池大师精通佛法弘法利生

  大师博通诸宗,不但是净土宗的祖师,而且也是华严宗的名僧,因此受到两宗学人的敬仰。无论是讲《华严》还是讲禅学,大师的造谐极深,并且其思想归趣皆归于净土。他认为净土教并非与其它诸宗对立,所以在他的《普劝念佛往生净土》一文中指出:“若人持律,律是佛制,正好念佛;若是看经,经是佛说,正好念佛;若是修禅,禅是佛心,正好念佛。”不仅如此,大师特别大家注重对经教的学习,他在《竹窗随笔》中指出:“我一生崇尚念佛,但也勤勤恳恳地劝人,也要看教典,因为念佛之说来自于何处?要不是佛金口玉言地所宣说,并明载于佛经中,现在的众生何以能知道十万亿刹之外,还有阿弥陀佛的极乐世界呢!其参禅的人,借口教外别传,不知道离开教而去参学是邪因,离开经教去悟是邪解……”可见大师对于那些,不重看经,盲修瞎练的学佛给以了严励的指正。大师开净土一门,普摄三根,极力主张“持名念佛”,乃著《弥陀疏钞》:“今此经者,崇约该博,更无他说。单指持名,但得一心,便生彼国,可谓逾简逾约,逾妙逾玄,径中径矣!……观法理微,众生心杂,杂心修观,观想难成。大圣悲怜,直劝专持名号,良由称名易故,相续即生。此阐扬持名念佛之功,最为往生净土之要……”十万馀言,融会事理,直归净土。

  大师所处年代,净土一宗已然势微,且众生慧浅福薄,所以大师一生不遗余力,既调和了诸宗关系,又专弘专扬净土法门。

  五、给人间留下佛学智慧精神财富。

  临终前半月,莲池大师预知时至,到城中告别诸弟子及故友。只是告诉大家:“我将到其他地方去了。”回到山中寺院便用茶汤供养大众,作为往生前的告别。大师言:“这里我就不再住了,我要到别处去了。”七月中,大师为列祖先宗设“盂兰盆会”,当晚入佛堂喧嘱大众:“我所说的话,许多人从来就不听,我现在就象风中的残烛,灯尽油干了,有些人有朝一日,只有栽了跟头,才能信我的话。所以明天我就要远行了。”在场的大众挽留大师住世。而大师作《三可惜》、《十叹》以警策大众。第二天夜,大师入方丈室,示微疾闭目无语。城中诸弟子赶到,围绕其旁,大师方才睁眼言道:“大家老实念佛!莫作怪,以坏我规矩!”言罢,便面向西方念佛,端然而逝于万历四十三年七月初四午时。

  大师一生教化众生,于明末时期享有盛名,得度弟子中既有出家僧,更有在家弟子,数以千计,其中不乏高官、名士。此时,正值法道式微之际,大师能以自身的真修实学,重振莲风,二百余年来,遗风犹在。

    对此,憨山大师曾盛赞莲池大师:

  “惟莲池大师的才具,足以经邦济世;悟性,足以传心印;教理,足以契合根机;戒律,足以护持正法;操守,足以警励世人;规约,足以疗救时弊,若不是应身大士来开朗末世重重昏暗,谁又能做得到这些呢?”

     阿弥陀佛。诸葛长青认为,凡是立志弘法、立志传播国学传统文化的善知识,要学习莲池大师,以身示范,做众生的榜样。

  大师一生著书,除《弥陀经疏》外,还有著名的《竹窗随笔》三卷以及《菩萨戒疏发隐》五卷、《具戒便蒙》一卷、《禅观策进》一卷、《缁门崇行录》一卷、《水陆法会仪轨》六卷、《楞严摸象记》十卷等三十余种流行于世。因大师晚年居于云栖寺,所以后世尊称他为“云栖大师”,其所有著作被后世弟子汇编于《云栖法汇》之中。
