Practice test: sit upright in the purple lotus (picture)

On the way to practice, you will encounter praise and sarcasm from others. Learn to be patient.

-----Zhuge Changqing

Cultivation, what is cultivation?

Zhuge Changqing believed that, in short, cultivation is the way to correct your wrong behavior and return to "stop evil, do good and improve the right path".

On the way of practicing Buddhism, you will encounter various tests.

Whether you study Buddhism, release life, give food, be vegetarian, recite Buddhism, print scriptures, etc., you may encounter praise and irony from others.

Whether you are a monk or at home, you may encounter the test of life's distress, gain and loss.

No matter whether you encounter it or not, you should learn to be patient, calm and calm.

There is a Buddhist term called "eight winds can't move, sitting upright in purple lotus".

It means warning and reminding people to endure eight tests.

The eight tests are called the eight winds. You must endure the wind of praise and irony.

You should practice patience, and do it slowly - -- eight winds can't move, sit upright in the purple lotus.

What are the eight tests and eight winds?

What is the "eight winds"? It is the eight kinds of wind that we often encounter in our daily life, namely, "praise, ridicule, bitterness, happiness, profit, decline, gain and loss".

These eight kinds of wind test our physical and mental fields very well.

Zhuge Changqing described the Bafeng test in popular language as follows:

Praise, ridicule, distress, happiness, interest, decline, gain, loss.

Zhuge Changqing believes that on the way to practice, we must draw inferences from one instance and often reflect on ourselves. Is there any problem in the eight aspects of "praise, irony, distress, happiness, interest, decline, gain and loss"? Have you achieved peace of mind?

1. Say: When someone "praises" you, do you feel blossoming and happy inside?

2. sneer: When people "scold" you, are you very angry or even retaliate?

3. Suffering: When encountering all kinds of "distress", are you downhearted and full of complaints?

4. Joy: When encountering "happy" things, are you intoxicated and forgetful?

5. Li: When you are in "smooth", do you feel satisfied and do not want to make progress?

6. Decline: When you encounter "decline", do you feel depressed?

7. Get: When you "get" what you like, are you ecstatic and dancing?

8. Loss: When you "lose" something, do you feel depressed and sleepless all night?

Everyone, the most important thing on the way to practice is to increase our patience and confidence.

Zhuge Changqing is here to share the story of Master Xuanhua's explanation of "The Eight Winds Can't Move" to enhance your wisdom.

A generation of eminent monk, Master Xuanhua, once told the historical story of "the eight winds cannot move" alone when explaining the "Brief Interpretation of the Great Compassion of the Heart".

... "Blessed One": What is the Blessed One? The world is the world; Zun is the most honorable person in the world. "This Bodhisattva Mahatha": This great Bodhisattva, "what's his name?" What's his name? He is good at speaking such a mantra. Propaganda means to publicize and speak out; If it is a Dharani, it is the aforementioned Dharani.

"Buddha's words": Sakyamuni Buddha replied to Ananda, "This Bodhisattva is called Guanshiyin Zizi": This Bodhisattva's name is Guanshiyin Zizi. To observe is to observe, that is, to observe with the wisdom he can observe. Observe what? Observe the sound of the world; The sound of the world is the realm of view.

What is his realm? All kinds of realms of all living beings; All good beings, evil beings, strong beings, weak beings, all kinds of colors; The sound of all sentient beings is what he sees. Observe the realm with the wisdom of being able to see. But at this time, if there is no concentration, what can we do?

Because he has a big decision, he has to be at ease; What is this freedom? That is the performance of concentration. If you have no concentration, you are not comfortable; When I was not comfortable, I was turned by the eight winds.

I have talked about these eight winds many times. I don't know if you remember?

Zhuge Changqing: Master Xuanhua is here to talk about "the eight winds cannot move"

Let's talk about it again today.

The eight winds are the eight states. Those who have no concentration will run with the eight realms; Those who have strength will not be turned by these eight realms. In the past, Su Dongpo and Zen Master Buddha Yin played tricks. Su Dongpo meditated in the Jiangnan Weir every day and felt that his realm was the highest.

Ah! I feel like I am sitting on the golden lotus, and if I don't move, I have lost Chang Ming.

Alas! This state is no higher!

Su Dongpo wrote a poem saying:

Jishou is in the middle of the sky. The eight winds do not move. Sit upright in the purple lotus.

Zhuge Changqing: This poem was written by Su Dongpo, reflecting the great realm of practitioners. The "eight winds can't move and sit upright in the purple lotus" spread in the Buddhist world is from Su Dongpo.

"Jishou in the sky" means kowtow. The sky in the sky is Buddha; Buddha is the heaven in heaven and the holy in holiness. In the highest realm, there is no higher than Buddha; At the lowest level, there is no lower than Buddha. The Buddha is void and universal, so there is no high and no low. Su Dongpo kowtowed to the Buddha

"The light shines on thousands of people". He felt that he put light on the world.

Then he said, "The eight winds can't move.". What is Bafeng? Now let me tell you something. The eight winds are praise, ridicule, bitterness, joy, profit, decline, gain and loss; Others say that it is destructive and reputable.

1. Say: It's to praise you.

Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. On the way to practice, when you learn Buddhism, promote Dharma, release life, give food, print scriptures, and eat vegetarian food, many people will praise you and hold you high. At this time, you should learn to be humble, because many people are trying to encourage you and make you progress. If you are proud and complacent, it will affect your cultivation achievements and hinder your progress.

For example, someone praised you and said, "A certain monk, you really have a great bodhi heart. Ah! You are really a great Dharma protector. Your merit is too great!"

Ah! A high hat on the left and a high hat on the right, I don't know how many high hats I will wear for you. You can wear them up to the sky, and it will break for 33 days! It was thirty-four days.

At this time, you think: Oh, I am good! How else would he praise me?

When you think about it, your heart will dance. What is dancing? Even if you swing your hands back and forth, your feet are like dancing, jumping up and down again. This is blown by the wind! The wind of praise and praise has blown you into the void! Originally, you wore such a high hat, and then jumped into the void, and you would be in the clouds. This is a strong wind that blows you up.

2. Sneer: sneer at you, sneer at you.

Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. On the way to learn Buddhism, many people will sneer at you, insult you, block you, and even attack you with the most unpleasant words because of the karmic traction of the karma for many years. This is also a test of you. First, remove the karma for you, and second, test your perseverance. For example, if you are releasing and giving food, some people may say that you will also release and give food? You are not Buddha or Bodhisattva. Zhuge Changqing believed that when learning Buddhism, we should be honest and upright. We should not listen to heretical doctrines, believe what Buddha and Bodhisattva said, and not listen to these sarcastic obstructions. With a common heart, firm confidence and perseverance, the future is bound to be brilliant.

What is sarcasm? When you learn Buddhism, he said, "Yes! He is a Buddhist, and this is the best!" He pulled a long voice, like a knife stabbing your ear, which is called sarcasm. In a word, if you don't want to listen to this truth, he will say it like this. If you prick your ears, you will feel uncomfortable; He left when he felt uncomfortable and lost his temper; When you lose your temper, there is no open fire. This is a wind of sarcasm, which makes you lose your temper.

3. Bitter: it is very bitter; It is not something to endure hardship, but to feel that what you have encountered is very bitter.

Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Life is a journey, on which you will encounter all kinds of troubles. Buddha Sakyamuni said that there are eight sufferings in life, that is, "life, old age, disease, death, love and separation, cannot seek, hatred and hatred, and the five yin are burning". These eight kinds of sufferings make people upset and angry, sometimes feel painful, and sometimes feel that life is boring. For example, the beloved can't get it; People in love are far away; People who have conflicts and hatred are arranged to work together This is also a test for you, so that you can see through life. Life is so hard. You may as well practice hard, do a good job of Zhuge Changqing's "five in one", and go all out to practice, enter the Buddha world, and stay away from the suffering of reincarnation.

This is a hard time to worry about; When you are in a hurry, you will catch fire; The fire almost dried up the blood on the body; When it burns dry, it will cause pain in the mouth, teeth, ears, and ears, and all diseases will come!

The bitter wind has brought you so many problems, such as frowning, dizziness, deafness and toothache. This is suffering!

4. Le: It's a happy thing.

Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. When you encounter big things like buying a new car or living in a new house, you may be happy and happy. At this time, we should pay attention to keep calm, everything is fleeting, it doesn't matter.

All the people we meet are very happy, and everyone treats you well; Eat well, dress well, live well, and there are small toots running around in and out; So at this time, I am very happy.

This happiness will be fooled into forgetting what it is! seek pleasure in order to free oneself from care.

This is all because the wind of music makes me confused, like becoming an immortal or a Buddha. At that time, he no longer practiced because he was happy! Happiness is also a wind, so don't think happiness is good.

5. Li: It means to be smooth, benefit and get benefits.

When you are in a smooth environment, you will be ecstatic about what benefits you get. For example, when you buy stocks, you buy them for 500 yuan. Ah! In less than three days, it quadrupled, worth 2000 yuan, and gained benefits. Think: Oh! I am rich this time! This is also affected by the wind.

6. Fade: It is decay.

Be calm in the face of impermanence. For example, there are a hundred large rooms here, and I don't know where the fire came from. The buildings of the hundred rooms have been burned down, which is not happy.

7. Get is get.

Get a lot of things baby, will be very happy; For example, if you pick up five million yuan on the road, you will get it! I'm very happy.

8. Lose. After he got it, he soon lost it, so he was unhappy again.

If you lose something that is not yours, you may be happy or unhappy.

If you have no concentration, you will be moved by these eight winds; You need to be calm. When the eight winds come, you will not move. It seems that there is no such thing. This is called the eight winds cannot move.

Su Dongpo thought that the eight winds could not move, "sitting upright in the purple lotus"; He sat upright on the purple lotus, and if he did not move, he reached the state of Chang Ming, ah! It's very wonderful. I think it's really wonderful.

So he wrote it down and sent it to the Buddhist monk, who asked him to confirm whether he was enlightened or not. Zen master Buddha Yin was very funny. He sent a waiter and sent this poem back; Without saying anything, I wrote four words on the back of the poem.

These four words are not very profound, and everyone understands them: "fart! Fart!".

Su Dongpo looked, ah! I write such a good poem. How do you say I fart? What a bastard!

So, instead of eight winds, just one wind and two farts will jump him up; From the south of the Yangtze River to the north of the Yangtze River, I came to Jinshan to meet the Buddhist monk.

As soon as he entered the door, he said angrily, "You monk, how can you swear?"

The Buddhist monk said, "What do I call you? Who called you?"

"Ah! I wrote such a good poem, which is my kung fu insight. To this extent, I wrote such a poem, why do you say I fart?"

The Buddhist monk said, "Don't you say that you can't move in the wind? Why did you jump across the river because of my two farts?"

Su Dongpo listened, oh! I really regret that I am still not strong enough. really There is nothing to say. It's all because I don't have kungfu; If you have enough kung fu and Bafeng doesn't move, why are you jumping up by two farts? So I quickly kowtow and salute, ask Zen master to teach more, and go back to work hard.

Why did he go from Jiangnan to Jiangbei? Just because he is not comfortable. If he looked at himself like Avalokitesvara, he would not come! You can say fart or not, whatever you say, as if you didn't hear it; Then with Kung Fu, the Buddhist monk will admire him. As a result, he was beaten down by the Buddhist monk. It was only one move, so he couldn't do it.

Zhuge Changqing: Bless all those who are destined to respect their parents, do good deeds and accumulate virtue, and continue to make progress! Firmly believe and persevere to achieve good results!
