Today, I share an interview story from the Beijing Evening News, "Ye Man, a centenarian: I have been vegetarian for 90 years". After reading this story, you will realize the importance of vegetarianism in life. In fact, both Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism advocate vegetarianism.
Mr. Yeman, formerly known as Liu Shilun, was born in 1914 in Hunan, graduated from Peking University, and lived in Los Angeles, United States. He was an associate professor of philosophy at Furen University. Youcheng Tingxun, a six-year-old left-born founder, was specially admitted by Mr. Hu Shizhi, then president of the Peking University School of Arts, to attend the Department of Economics of the Peking University Law School in 1935.
In order to understand life and death, he studied Buddhism in the middle age. He served Mr. Nan Huaijin and Guru Chen Jianmin successively. When attending the World Buddhist Conference in the 1980s, he met and became friends with the former President of the Chinese Buddhist Association, Zhao Puchu.
Ye Man has been stationed abroad with the diplomat Mr. Tian Baodai for more than 20 years. He has been exposed to different western religions such as Christianity and Islam, and has studied Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism for many years. He has unique views on Eastern and Western cultures, philosophy and religion. He is one of the masters of Chinese culture who integrate Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism in the world today.
... On September 13, 2013, the time went back to 1921, in front of a Donglaishun mutton shop in Beijing.
A young couple led their 8-year-old girl to eat boiled mutton. In front of the kitchen door of the shop, the cook was dragging a sheep to kill. The sheep screamed bitterly and knelt there, but refused to enter the door. The sheep's wailing sound was like crying. The little girl was shocked by everything in front of her. The delicious boiled mutton was originally from... that night, she didn't eat a piece of mutton, and she ate pancakes. No matter how others advised her, she never touched any meat since that day.
The little girl of that year was Ms. Yeman, born in March 1914. Her original name was Liu Shilun. According to the traditional Chinese folk chronological method, she is 100 years old this year. Ye Man graduated from Peking University and served as an associate professor in the Department of Philosophy of Furen University.
At the age of 6, he was enlightened by Zuo Zhuan. In 1935, he was specially admitted by Mr. Hu Shi, then president of the Peking University School of Arts, and studied in the Department of Economics of the Peking University Law School. After middle age, master Shi Nan Huaijin and master Chen Jianmin. Yeman is one of the few masters of Chinese culture who have integrated Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism in the world today. He has inherited thousands of classical courses of Chinese culture, and has written a number of collections of works, enjoying a high reputation at home and abroad.
1、 When I eat meat, I think of the miserable cry of sheep. Eating less meat means less poisoning.
Zhuge Changqing: When people eat meat, do you ever think how sad the fathers, mothers and children of those animals are? Can you ever imagine how miserable the killed animals are? For example, when a cow is killed, it tears. The Shurangama Sutra says: "People eat sheep, sheep die for people, and people die for sheep. For example, even ten lives, death and life are mutually beneficial... You bear my life, and I repay your debt, so it is karma, and after hundreds of thousands of calamities, you are always in life and death."
The other day, I met Yeman at the invitation of my friend.
As soon as we sat down in her living room, the old man walked to the chair opposite us with a smile and pushed the "mobile car" similar to a wheelchair.
It looks like she is in her eighties. Although her hair has been dyed, it is very dense. She can't see too many wrinkles on her face. When talking with her, she is blind and deaf.
Ask him how to live a long life. "My diet is not simple! I have been vegetarian since I was 8 years old, and I have been eating for 90 years," he said
According to her elders, vegetarianism is very beneficial to the human body, and it is not as malnutrition as some people say. She said, "There are some things I can't tell you. You can only experience them by yourself."
We asked the old man, "Are you greedy for meat?" She said, "Of course, I am greedy. When I smell the meat, it smells delicious. But at this time, I think of the sad scene when I saw the sheep before being slaughtered when I was a child. The thought quickly stopped, and I really can't bear to kill animals to satisfy my appetite.
Zhuge Changqing shares ancient people's anti-killing poems:
Lv Chunyang: You should save things when they die, and you should save you when you die. There is no other way to prolong the growth of seeds. It's just to abstain from killing and releasing.
Tao Shikui: I take boiling soup with one finger, and my whole body is scared to crack. A needle pierces one's own flesh and cuts the whole body like a knife. When a fish dies, it mourns for people. When a chicken dies, it cries for a knife. The weeping is distinct, and the listener is not aware of it.
Moreover, it is said that before animals are slaughtered, their hearts are full of hatred, so in the meat after slaughtering, the hatred mentality becomes poison. Eating such meat for a long time will be harmful to human body. So I think that eating less meat means less poisoning. "
2、 It's easy to live a hundred years old: reasonable diet and sleep
Zhuge Changqing: The four key factors for health and longevity are: peace of mind, reasonable diet, adequate sleep, and proper exercise. To live a long life, you must learn to maintain health. Life needs to be maintained.
Ye said: "In fact, it is very easy for each of us to live a hundred years old. We can extend the aging time."
Ye Lao believed that life was in everyone's hands. She suggested that everyone should eat seven cents full for each meal, but they should eat well for breakfast, full at noon, and eat less for dinner. It was better not to eat.
Eat not only full but also hungry, and always slowly. She said that many people now eat too much, and some even eat twelve cents full. How can your viscera bear it. "People can't do anything too full. The same is true for eating. I have nothing to fill in my life, I have room for everything, I would rather lack some, and I am ready to step back at any time. My life is flat and light."
Ye said, "It's also important to take a nap at noon. I have been sticking to it for decades. Don't underestimate it. Why did the ancients emphasize that we should rest at this time? There is a lot of knowledge in it. I will only talk about it. You can study the rest by yourself. Both the noon and the noon are the beginning of time. The ancients have a strong sense of time, so they advocated that we should rest at this time. There is a mystery in it."
What is noon sleep? Zhuge Changqing said that "noon sleep" means that "noon and noon" should go into deep sleep and rest.
Subhour=11 p.m. - 1 a.m. (you can't stay up late at this time);
Noon=between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. (can rest for half an hour).
3、 If a person gets angry once, he will "live one year less"
Zhuge Changqing: There are many health wisdom in ancient China, such as "smiling for ten years, worrying for ten years, and losing your breath when you are angry. Don't be angry in life. Be careful.
"Your face is rosy", "Your clothes are beautiful"
I remember that day in Ye's home, the old man talked with us, and from time to time praised his accompanying friends, and occasionally made a joke.
The old man was very kind and prepared Hami melon for everyone. While watching everyone eat, he also humorously "commented" on who's "combat effectiveness" and who eats clean. Seeing that we were all very tall, the old man suddenly accentuated his voice and said, "Don't be angry, especially when eating. Remember, if you are angry once, you will lose one year of your life. If you are angry, you will get sick."
When talking about angry topics, the old man felt a lot.
"The person who makes you angry is the person who wants to make you die early. I said that the person who is angry with me is the one who seeks revenge. If you are angry with me, I will not be angry. When I am angry, the person who is angry with me will be happy. Is the meaning of my life to make the person who is angry with me happy? Besides, if I am really angry, can the person who is angry with me manage me?" "So I am happy every day so that I can live a long life. I live well to do what I can to make myself and others happy."
During the conversation, we saw a "one-week menu" on the tea table in front of us, with the words "fried white gourd and luffa with ginger sauce on Monday, fried potatoes, cabbage and mushrooms on Tuesday, stewed beans with potatoes on Wednesday, fried eggs with tomatoes on Thursday..." We asked the old man: "Is this your weekly menu?" The old man replied: "That menu was drawn up by a friend. It's too troublesome. I ate very simple."
According to Xiao Wang, who takes care of the elderly, the elderly have a good temper, live regularly, eat regularly and freely. She also ordered three or four newspapers at home. She had to read newspapers before breakfast and lunch every day. The Beijing Evening News was a must every day. She was very concerned about the news. Ye also likes to watch Beijing Opera on TV. Sometimes I read books when I can't sleep at night.
Remember that she lived for 100 years and was vegetarian for 90 years. Now, when Ye is in good spirits, he can speak for two or three hours in a row.
4、 About Ms. Yeman.
Ms. Yeman is one of the few masters of Chinese culture who have integrated Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. His father is the son of a family, and he is sworn brother to Wang Yunwu and Han Deqing. Yeman has been brilliant since childhood. He has inherited court training since childhood. At the age of six, he was enlightened by Zuo Chuan. In 1935, Mr. Hu Shizhi (Hu Shi), then dean of the School of Liberal Arts of Peking University, attended the Department of Economics of Peking University Law School.
During her study at Peking University, Yeman chose Hu Shi's "History of Chinese Philosophy", Tao Xisheng's "History of Ancient Chinese Society", Qian Mu's "General History", Wen Yiduo's "Songs of Chu" and Ye Gongchao's "English Zhengyin". The teaching of these master scholars laid a solid foundation for her to introduce the essence of Chinese culture in a simple and profound way around the world in the future.
After graduating from the university, Ye Man married Tian Baodai, who was admitted to Peking University in the same year. Later, he was the husband of a diplomat. As the wife of the ambassador, he stayed abroad in the United States, Japan, the Philippines, Australia, Saudi Arabia and other places for a total of 25 years, and then lived in Los Angeles, the United States. Yeman has been exposed to different western religions such as Christianity and Islam, and has studied Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism for many years. He has unique views on Eastern and Western culture, philosophy and religion. In order to understand life and death, he learned Buddhism in middle age. He has successively served Mr. Nan Huaijin, Guru Chen Jianmin and other great virtues, and has repeatedly gained.
In the 1960s, Yeman established the "Wen Xian Society" in Taiwan to spread the three major Chinese cultures of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. In the 1970s, the "Wenxian Academy" was set up in the home of Hagang in Los Angeles, the United States. Every Saturday, the "Four Books", "Tao Te Ching", Buddhist stories and other courses were taught free of charge, and the Chinese culture was taught to overseas Chinese, hoping to promote more ethos of self-study.
In the middle of the 1980s, Ye Man, on behalf of the Chinese Buddhist Buddhist Association (Taiwan), was elected Vice President of the World Buddhist Friendship Association. During that time, he met Zhao Puchu, President of the Chinese Buddhist Association, dramatically, making them close friends. Later, when invited by Mr. Park to visit Yunju Temple in Beijing, he found that Yunju Temple had been damaged during the Japanese invasion of China. He immediately made a great wish to rebuild Yunju Temple.
In 1990, Yeman traveled to Hong Kong, the United States, Singapore and other places and raised a total of 320000 US dollars. Among them, 300000 US dollars were donated for the reconstruction of Yunju Temple, which was received by He Luli, the then deputy mayor of Beijing, and the 10th Panchen Master. Old Park also made a banner to praise his merits. The remaining $20000 was donated to Yunnan and Guizhou to set up Hope Primary Schools. So far, 13 Wenxian Hope Primary Schools have been built. In 1992, Yeman received a gold medal from the World Buddhist Association and the Buddhist Conference attended by representatives of 27 countries.
Yeman was once an associate professor of philosophy department of Furen University, editor in chief of women's magazine, and praised by readers with Yeman mailbox. His rich life experiences in the East and the West, his accessible attitude to life and his insight into human nature have helped modern people to preach and dispel doubts in the choice of life goals and problems such as family, love, marriage and faith. The demeanor of an amiable scholar and her understanding of Chinese culture have made her a spiritual mentor to countless friends at home and abroad. Yeman has inherited thousands of classical courses of Chinese traditional learning, and has written a number of works, enjoying a high reputation at home and abroad.
At the end of 2006, Phoenix Satellite TV's "Cultural Grand View Garden" conducted a special visit to Ye Man. In November, at the invitation of Peking University, a speech entitled "China must be strong" was given to students in the Century Hall of Peking University. In the same month, at the invitation of the Yangtze River Business School, "one life, two transportation and three geomantic omens" was explained to business elites from a scientific perspective. In April 2007, at the invitation of Ye Xiaowen, Director of the State Administration of Religious Affairs of the People's Republic of China, he attended the "International Tao Te Ching Forum" held in Xi'an. On June 30, 2007, he was invited to Guanghua Temple in Beijing to give a speech on "Buddhism in China", and repeatedly taught the audience traditional culture with history, Confucianism and Taoism as the main themes at the "China Urban Forum - Wangjing Olympic Forum" in Wangjing Street, Chaoyang District, Beijing. In the future, Ms. Yeman will return the rest of her life and her lifelong learning to the motherland, so that Wenxian College can take root and sprout in the land of the motherland and pass on from generation to generation.

子时=晚上11--凌晨1点(此时不可以熬夜);
