 　　I. A man saves a crane

  Zhuge Changqing: To release a crane is to save a life, and releasing a crane can be done at any time. The easiest way is to go to the market and buy fish, birds, insects, animal species and so on to release. Of course, as long as you have the heart, releasing life can be done at any time. Saving life is sometimes as simple as a word, a penny or a gesture from you may save a lovely life. For example, if someone shoots a bird, a yell from you saves a life.

　　Zhang Houyi of Yueyang City, Hunan Province, has contracted to raise fish on several thousand acres of water in the back lake west of Junshan Island. Junshan Lake is located in the East Dongting Lake, the 1970s is still a paradise for birds, due to indiscriminate fishing, migratory birds have fled, white cranes are gone, the formerly lively lake area has become a dead silence. When the East Dongting Lake National Nature Reserve was established, Zhang Houyi became a hardcore environmental volunteer.

　　On 21 November 1992, Zhang Houyi was sailing his boat to Pants Bay behind Junshan when he suddenly noticed two young men in the reeds ahead of him with a shotgun aimed at a large white bird standing at the water's edge. The moment the poachers were about to pull the trigger, Zhang Houyi shouted, "This is a protected area, you can't shoot birds!" The two poachers immediately put away their shotguns and slipped away. Zhang Houyi rowed his boat over to them. When he was 30 metres away from the big bird, he finally got a good look at it and was stunned. "Isn't this the white crane that has disappeared for years?"

　　When Zhang Houyi approached the white crane, it was already powerless to stand up. Zhang Houyi hastily picked up the crane and examined it carefully: the crane was white and flawless, its long beak was bright red and straight, its neck was long and coiled, and there was a dark red wound at the root of its left foot, and the blood that oozed out had stained the feathers at the root of the foot red. The crane had obviously been wounded by a poacher with a gun and would soon die if not treated in time.

　　Zhang Houyi rushed home with the crane in his arms. When he arrived home, he asked his partner to hold the crane's foot, he used a sterilized * piece to carefully cut open the wound and took out an iron marble ...... After the surgery, the crane was out of breath and Zhang Houyi was distraught. That night, he put a jumper over the white crane and did not sleep soundly all night.

　　The actual fact is that you can find a lot of people who have been in the marketplace for a long time, and they've been in the market for a long time. In order to strengthen its resistance, Zhang Houyi also bought rice porridge stew and fed it to the crane. As he was worried about the crane's stiff legs after lying down for a long time, Zhang Houyi also massaged the crane's legs every day ......

　　The adult male crane passed the dangerous period safely under Zhang Houyi's care, and was able to hobble and stand after half a month. Zhang Houyi pulls the crane back and forth every day after catching fish to strengthen the arms of its wings and the stirrups of its toes. After more than 20 days of hibernation, the crane was in a particularly good mood, with a "cackling" sound coming from its mouth and its wings flapping incessantly. Sometimes Zhang Houyi got tired of walking and let his son Zhang Qiaoxin take over. After a week's training, the cranes recovered and appeared to be in good spirits and ready to return to the blue sky.

　　In the afternoon of 28 December 1992, Zhang Houyi took the cranes to the back lake of Junshan to release them. After entering the lake, the cranes first vibrated their wings, then led their long necks and stretched their legs, and flew higher and higher with the sound of "clicks, clicks".

　　The next morning, the crane flew back to Zhang Houyi's house. Since then, Zhang Houyi, accompanied by staff from the reserve, has released the cranes three times at the reserve's Daxi Lake, Qianliang Lake and Caisang Lake. However, after each release, the cranes flew back to Zhang Houyi's house the next morning. After a few times, Zhang Houyi ran out of ideas. After asking for permission from the leaders of the reserve, he adopted the white crane, which is humane and affectionate, and gave it a nice name "Fei Fei".

　　People and cranes are never far apart

  Zhuge Changqing: All things are spiritual, and animals, like humans, are members of the six paths of reincarnation and are all equal. By releasing more animals, you are actually accumulating blessings for yourself.

　　Every morning, Fei Fei wakes up at 6am sharp and then drums his feathers and brightens his wings to urge his master to get up. During the day, when Zhang Houyi goes fishing in the lake, Fei Fei flies in front of and behind the boat, spreading its white wings and hovering low in the air, and then retracting its wings and landing on the bow of the boat, watching peacefully as its master casts his net to catch fish. At night, Fei Fei huddles at Zhang Houyi's feet and stretches his long beak under his master's knees ......

　　It's March, the season when the grass grows and the birds start to fly, and when the migratory birds from Dongting Lake start to fly back to the north. On the day of the Qingming Festival, a flock of cranes flew over Zhang's house. Seeing this, Fei Fei sprang up, leapt over the roof and flew towards the cranes. Three days later, when another flock of cranes flew over the Zhang family, Fei Fei let out a few mournful cries before flying high into the sky again. When Zhang Houyi's family heard the cranes, they ran out of the house to stare in awe at the distant Fei Fei. But a few minutes later, Fei Fei returned to the ground once again and landed on Zhang Houyi's shoulder, stretching out his long neck and rubbing it back and forth on his master's face. Seeing Fei Fei's fond look, Zhang Houyi gently stroked Fei Fei's neck and whimpered, "Go on, your companion is waiting for you?" Zhang Houyi knew that Fei Fei had reached the time when he was looking for a mate and he lovingly instructed, "Don't forget to bring back a 'daughter-in-law' when you return in winter so that we can be happy too." After saying this, he hugged Fei Fei and threw her into the sky.

　　One night in November 1993, Zhang Houyi suddenly heard the sound of cranes singing over the roof. He woke up his partner and said, "Fei Fei must have come back." His partner thought he was thinking about Fei Fei and was talking in his sleep, so he ignored him and turned over and fell asleep again. But Zhang Houyi couldn't sleep ......

　　The next morning, Zhang Houyi got up early. When he opened the door to his room, two large white birds oohed and aahed and came straight at him from the reeds in front of his house. Zhang Houyi was surprised to find that the one in front of him was Fei Fei, whom he had missed day and night. After seeing Zhang Houyi, Fei Fei stretched his neck, flapped his wings, and kept "cackling" in his mouth, Zhang Houyi couldn't help but cry, and kept stroking Fei Fei's neck, talking about missing him for a long time. When he had had enough, Zhang Houyi noticed the white crane following behind Fei Fei. This is a female crane that has just turned four years old. She is white and her beak and feet are as red as fire, and she stands like a beautiful young girl. Zhang Houyi complimented Fei Fei repeatedly, "What a talent."

　　Zhang Houyi built a large bird's nest for them in the side room with wooden planks and asbestos tiles, covered it with thick straw and put a big "happy" word on the door as their "wedding room". At the end of the day, Zhang Houyi and his family discussed naming his daughter-in-law Fei Fei "Xiao Xue".

　　During the honeymoon days of Fei Fei and Xiao Xue, the Zhang family could see their joyful dance performance in the early morning and evening every day. Fei Fei first stretches his wings and "clicks" a few times before gently dancing towards Snowy, circling his wife and dancing around her. Snow slowly opens her wings and moves her feet to gently meet her husband. At the climax of the dance, the couple's beaks are in pairs, jumping up and down in turn, chirping their necks, in perfect harmony with each other, as if they were a pair of excellent ballet masters.

　　"The cranes dance with the fishermen!" The news eventually caught the attention of Dr George Akibo, President of the International Crane Foundation. Upon receiving the report, Dr Akibo, who was in Iran at the time to study crane conservation, immediately made the trip to Yueyang with his wife. When he and his wife saw the wonderful performance of Fei Fei and Xiao Xue at Zhang Houyi's home, they were so happy that they danced with joy and Dr Akibo held Zhang Houyi's hand tightly and said, "Mr Zhang, you are amazing. Instead, at your home, I was able to enjoy such a wonderful dance of two cranes. This dance performance by wild whooping cranes is the first time I have seen one in my 20 years of working to protect the cranes." When he learnt of Zhang Houyi's rescue of the cranes under the gun from the leader of the reserve administration who was accompanying him, he quickly reached out his hand and hugged him tightly, saying, "Mr Zhang, you are a hero for protecting the White Cranes, and on behalf of the International Crane Foundation and the International Crane Conservation Society, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to you!" On the same day, he solemnly presented Zhang Houyi with the badge of the International Crane Conservation Society and formally accepted Zhang Houyi as a member.

　　In order to observe the habits of the cranes, Dr and Mrs Akibo stayed at Zhang Houyi's home and did not return until after New Year's Day 1994. In just 10 days, Dr. and Mrs. Archibald built a deep friendship with the Zhang Houyi family and became attached to the cranes. Later, Dr. Akibo also called and wrote many times to ask about Fei Fei and Xiao Xue, and invited Zhang Houyi to visit the headquarters of the International Crane Foundation in Wisconsin, USA.

 1. Do not kill a living being with your own hands.

　　2. Do not abet others to kill.

　　3. Do not help others to kill.

　　4. Abstain from eating meat.

　　5. Do not engage in trades related to killing.

　　6、Whenever there is worship, regardless of what is being worshipped, use vegetarian dishes, flowers and fruit, not animal gifts.

　　7. If you see someone killing a human being, you should discourage them or buy the animal to be slaughtered with money and release it. If this does not work, or if the person does not sell the animal, then you should have compassion for the slaughtered animal, and even better if you can recite the Buddha's name or mantra for it.

　　8. Do not abuse the animal.

　　9、Other actions that are contrary to killing.

　　10. Abstain from killing and releasing animals yourself, and advise others to do the same. 

   1、不亲手杀生。

　　2、不教唆别人杀生。

　　3、不帮助别人杀生。

　　4、戒除肉食。

　　5、不从事与杀生有关的行业。

　　6、凡有祭拜，不管拜的是什么，一律用素菜、鲜花、水果，不用牲礼。

　　7、见人杀生，应加劝阻，或用钱将临宰之动物买而放之。若劝阻无效，或他不卖，则应对被杀之动物起同情心，若能为它念佛号或往生咒更好。

　　8、不虐待动物。

　　9、其他与杀生行为相反之行为。

　　10、自己戒杀放生，也劝别人戒杀放生。
