Zeng Guofan's maxim: contented with the wide universe, greedy for the narrow universe
曾国藩格言:知足天地宽,贪得宇宙隘
To do good and accumulate virtue and be contented is the way to live a healthy and happy life and have a peaceful mind.

Zhuge Changqing said: Zeng Guofan, a master of traditional Chinese culture, is a model for learning.
Zeng Guofan can be selected as a modern model to fully display Confucianism throughout the past and present.
Zeng Guofan embodied the core ideas of Confucianism: meditation, sincerity, self-cultivation, family unity, and governing the country and the world. Of course, the outstanding Zeng Guofan was not only proficient in Confucianism, but also studied Taoism's Huanglao doctrine, Buddhism's virtue accumulation, and Buddhism's thought of karma. He is a master of Chinese culture.
Therefore, he was known as the first perfect man in the world for centuries, because of his military strategy, wisdom and fame.
Zeng Guofan wrote a poem in his letter to his brother: "The clock in the left column rings and the book in the right column is slandered. There are multiplication and division everywhere in the world. He bowed his head and worshipped the sheep and said that everything is too empty.". It shows his wisdom beyond the world.
Sun Changlong, the son of Zeng Guofan, is admirable for his continuous development.

·Be contented with the breadth of the universe, and be greedy for the narrowness of the universe.
Zhuge Changqing: The greatest pain in life is to pursue the wrong things. Too much delusion leads to worries and pain in life. The real happiness is to honor parents and benefit the society. Open your mind.
·The best way to do good is not to seek knowledge. The worst way to do evil is to be afraid of others.
Zhuge Changqing: Doing good deeds and accumulating virtue are the foundation of wealth and auspiciousness in life. Zeng Guofan deeply understood.
·Those who serve the name will harm their health, and those who have more money will harm their health. Good and evil retribution is not the principle of heaven. It is to become a gentleman and destroy villains. Fortune and misfortune make heaven and earth love each other. Like thunder, rain, snow and frost, all want to create everything. Therefore, the gentleman is afraid, while the villain is lucky. Fear of its misfortune will lead to prosperity, and neglect of its happiness will lead to disaster. It is said that there is no door to disaster or fortune, but people call it.
·Everything should be handled peacefully and slowly. If you are in a hurry, you may make mistakes. Why don't you go wrong from your busy schedule. Therefore, it is the first way to deal with things.
·It is easier to be good than to be good. A man of virtue is not tired of being small, and not tired of being long. The seclusion is unknown, and the disease of the world will not change at the right time. It is therefore rooted in all hearts, sincere in all words and deeds, diligent in the times, and not responsible for their kung fu. Then relatives and friends will trust it, and the people will be safe, and the spirit will be the same. How can the category of good products be the same as that of good products?
Zhuge Changqing: Zeng Guofan realized the importance of doing good and accumulating virtue, so in his middle and late years, Zeng Guofan made great efforts to do good and accumulate virtue, thus maintaining the brilliance of his life.
·Too soft leads to weakness, too hard leads to weakness; Rigidity comes from softness, and softness can overcome rigidity.
·The word "anger" is also used by sages and sages. They can endure for a moment without hurting life.
·The four words of "perseverance and perseverance" are the most important things to do. Don't be afraid of difficulties, don't give up, don't breed bad habits, and don't leave behind people's words. If we proceed in this way, why not achieve our goal?
·The light is the base of morality. Those who worry about hard work are the foundation of building a business. There are no sages of wealth and honor in ancient Hun, and no heroes of feasting and leisure.
Zhuge Changqing: Indifference is the basis of doing good and accumulating virtue. There should be pursuit, but don't be too greedy.
·Or: How can we avoid slander when dealing with the world. He said, "Go away from the six evils and use the four honours." He said, "If you don't remonstrate deeply, you will slander the king, if you don't make friends, if you don't live in peace, you will sin the country, if you don't live frugally, you will sin the age, if you don't live high, you will be arrogant, if you don't want to be determined, you will envy the rich. This is called the six evils. If you respect your way, Yao and Shun will not be inferior. If you respect your relatives, the world will not be inferior. If you respect yourself, children and children will not be amused. If you respect your will, you will not be respected, but you will not be respected. This is called the four honours."
·Those who are not respected by the position say Tao, and those who are rich without loan say Wen. Eh! Will I call it time? Those who respect and pride themselves will not do it. Will I call it untimely? I will do it if I am rich and secure.
·Qi is harmful to the heart, so it should be controlled first to cultivate the heart.
·Caution can avert disasters, and diligence can help the poor.
·Sour words are the easiest to spread, but serious words are not known, that is, the world is evil and thin.
·A gentleman is full of natural principles, so he takes pleasure in following them. The villain is full of desire, so he takes pleasure in getting it. There is no time to be satisfied, so happiness is more than sorrow. Reason exists all the time, so it is always happy. To be happy and reasonable. The pleasure of indulgence is accompanied by sorrow.
Zhuge Changqing: To do good and accumulate virtue is to obey the law of heaven. To do good and accumulate virtue is the law of heaven.
·Or say that talented people are too proud.
·He who can shelter others is an adult, and he who can be sheltered is a villain.
·High talent articles are good enough to be famous, and bad enough to cause disaster.
·Don't be patient when things come, and don't be defensive when you want to. That is to think about hidden things, that is, to think about prevention when moving. It is like burning water overflowing, and the obstacles are very difficult.
·Women are jealous of the family, and scholars are jealous of the dynasty. If there is no desire to be greedy, proud and spoiled, why envy?
·The treasure goods can be used as much as possible, and the loyalty and filial piety can be enjoyed as much as possible.
Zhuge Changqing: The foundation of loyalty and filial piety is the basic method of tranquility.
·Food can stop hunger, drink can stop thirst, fear can stop disaster, and enough can stop greed.
·The spoiler is subject to his wife, and the loser is subject to wealth. When a man sees goodness and wisdom, he is as famous as Mount Tai. If you are hard, you will die lightly.
·Everyone has a heart of love for life and evil for death. What is it? See the good without knowing the ear.
·The latter will prosper with virtue and perish with disaster. Those who are modest and humble are not only virtuous, but also cruel and treacherous.
·Benevolence is not as good as sincerity. Benevolence is not as good as profundity. Benevolence is not as good as profundity—— Zeng Guofan's famous words
·Those who sell their names with loyalty criticize, those who sell their names with trust cheat, those who sell their names with integrity are greedy, and those who sell their names with integrity are dirty. Loyalty and integrity are the foundation of life, not the tool of fame. For one thing, why should we take the disciples of Xiangyuan?
·The control of human nature should be like the control of water by embankments. They are often afraid of leakage. If we ignore its flood, we can't recover from it.
·Those who have a good reputation often slander others; Those who are gracious often rob others. It is dangerous.
·Those who rely on wealth are poor, those who rely on high are low, those who rely on strong are weak, and those who rely on skillful are clumsy. Rely on benevolence and righteousness, not poor, not cheap, not weak, not clumsy. Zhuge Changqing: People's greatest reliance is on benevolence and righteousness, good deeds and moral integrity. Zeng Guofan has a thorough understanding of these principles.
·The waterway is tortuous, and those who stand on the shore see it while those who hold the boat are lost. The chess game is won or lost, and the chess player is puzzled and is judged by the spectator. Non-intelligence has its own light and dark. You can observe the movement by covering the static. If people can not be confused by interests, things will be as good as one or two before them. Therefore, a gentleman can cultivate his mind and be quiet.
·A man should never be good at fighting, never be safe in enduring humiliation, never be good before cultivating morality, never be happy in being good, never be god in sincerity, never be clear in body and things, never be lucky in contentment, never be bitter in wishful thinking, never be sad in fine dispersion, never be ill in impermanence, never be short in suffering, never be quiet in greed, never be alone in self-reliance, never be in danger in any doubt, and never be defeated in many selfish ways.
·There are three gates in the world, which are free from lust and free from birds; Freedom from propriety and justice, entering into the human door; You are free from wisdom and enter the Holy Gate.
Zhuge Changqing: Whatever you pursue, you will have your life journey. Goal pursuit is very important.
·Heartbreak is to hear it and not change it. To think over and not change is to lose body.
行善积德、知足常乐,便是人生健康安乐、心态安详方法。

诸葛长青:人生最大的痛苦,就是在于追求错误的东西。过多妄念,导致人生烦恼、痛苦。真正的快乐,是孝敬父母、造福社会。放开心量。
·
为善最乐,是不求人知。为恶最苦,是惟恐人知。
诸葛长青:行善积德是人生富贵吉祥的根本,曾国藩深深领悟。
·
务名者害其身,多财者祸其后。善恶报缓者非天纲束,是欲成君子而灭小人也。祸福者天地所以爱人也。如雷雨雪霜,皆欲生成万物。故君子恐惧而畏,小人侥幸而忽。畏其祸则福生,忽其福则祸至。传所谓祸福无门,惟人所召也。
· 凡遇事须安祥和缓以处之,若一慌忙,便恐有错。盖天下何事不从忙中错了。故从容安祥,为处事第一法。
·
夫为善易,积善难。士之于善也,微焉而不厌,久焉而不倦。幽隐无人知而不间,招世之疾逢时之患而不变。是故根诸心,诚诸言行,与时勉勉,不责其功夫,然后亲友信之,国人安之,而鬼神格之也。善积未至,其畴能与于斯乎?
诸葛长青:曾国藩认识到行善积德的重要性,所以,中晚年的曾国藩,大力行善积德,从而保持了人生的辉煌。

太柔则靡,太刚则折;刚自柔出,柔能克刚。
·
忿怒二字,圣贤亦有之,特能少忍须臾,便不伤生。
·
“坚忍有恒”四字,最为办事要着,勿畏难中辍,勿滋生弊窦,勿遗人口实。照此进行,何患不达目的?
·
清淡者,崇德之基也。忧勤者,建业之本也。古珲无富贵之圣贤,无宴逸之豪杰。
诸葛长青:清淡是行善积德的基础,要有追求,但是不要贪欲太重啊。
·
或曰:交处乎世,如何可以免乎谤。曰:“去六邪,用四尊,则可矣。”曰:“谏未深而谤君,交未至而则友,居未安而罪国家,家不俭而罪岁,道不高而凌贵,志不定而羡富,此之谓六邪也。自尊其道,尧舜不得而卑也。自尊其亲,天下不得而绌也。自尊其己,孩孺不得而娱也。自尊其志,刀锯不得而威也,此之谓四尊也。”

不位而尊者曰道,不贷而富者曰文。噫!吾将谓得时乎?尊而骄者不为矣,吾将谓失时乎?富而安者吾为矣。
·
气为心害,养心当先制气。
· 慎能远祸,勤能济贫。
·
尖酸语最易传布,正经话却无人称说,即此可知世道恶薄。
·
君子满腹天理,故以顺理为乐。小人满腹人欲,故以得欲为乐。欲无时可足,故乐不胜忧。理无时不存,故随在皆乐。至乐顺理。纵欲之乐,忧患随焉。
诸葛长青:行善积德顺从天道,行善积德即是天理。
· 或谓才子多傲,余曰傲便是不才。
· 能庇人便是大人,受人庇便是小人。
·
高才能文章,善居之,足以成名,不善居之,足以致祸。
·
事莫待来时忍,欲莫待动时防。即来思隐,即动思防,如火炽水溢,障之甚难。
·
女相妒于室,士相妒于朝,古今通患也。若无贪荣擅宠之心,何嫉妒之有?
·
宝货用之有尽,忠孝享之无穷。
诸葛长青:忠孝人生立足之基础,是安详的基本方法。
·
食能止饥,饮能止渴,畏能止祸,足能止贪。
·
溺爱者受制于妻子,患失者屈己于富贵。大丈夫见善明,则重名节如泰山。用心刚,则轻死生如鸿毛。
·
人皆有爱生恶死之心,人皆为舍生取死之道。何也?见善不明耳。
·
以德遗后者昌,以祸遗后者亡。谦柔卑退者,德之余,强暴奸诈者,祸之始。
·
仁言不如仁心之诚,利近不如利远之博,仁言或失于口惠,利近或失于姑息。 —— 曾国藩名言
·
以忠沽名者讦,以信沽名者诈,以廉沽名者贪,以洁沽名者污。忠信廉洁,立身之本,非钓名之具也。有一于此,乡原之徒,又何足取哉?
·
人之制性,当如堤防之治水。常恐其漏坏之易。若不顾其泛滥,一倾而不可复也。
·
好誉者,常谤人;市恩者,常夺人。其倾危一也。
·
倚富者贫,倚贵者贱,倚强者弱,倚巧者拙。倚仁义不贫不贱不弱不拙。 诸葛长青:人最大的依靠就是仁义、行善积德,曾国藩洞彻其中道理。

水道曲折,立岸者见而操舟者迷。棋势胜负,对奕者惑而傍观者审。非智有明暗,盖静可以观动也。人能不为利害所汩,则事物至前,如数一二,故君子养心以静也。

夫志心笃行之术,长莫长于搏谋,安莫安于忍辱,先莫先于修德,乐莫乐于好善,神莫神于至诚,明莫明于体物,吉莫吉于知足,苦莫苦于多愿,悲莫悲于精散,病莫病于无常,短莫短于苟得,幽莫幽于贪鄙,孤莫孤于自恃,危莫危于任疑,败莫败于多私。

天下有三门,繇于情欲,入自禽门;繇于礼义,入自人门;繇于独智,入自圣门。
