The first space rendezvous and docking mission of China's manned space project has officially started.
It is reported that the "Shenzhou 8" launched will dock with the "Tiangong 1" launched earlier and the "Shenzhou 9" and "Shenzhou 10" spacecraft launched later, thus establishing the first Chinese space laboratory.

China News Service, November 1 (Xinhua) -- The commander in chief of China's manned space program, Chang Wanquan, announced today at the Beijing Flight Control Center that the "Shenzhou 8" spacecraft had entered the scheduled orbit and the launch was a complete success. According to the plan, the spacecraft will complete rendezvous and docking with the Tiangong-1 target aircraft in 2 days.

At 5:58:07 on November 1, China's "Long March 2F" Yaoba carrier rocket ignited and took off at the manned space launch site of Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, launching the "Shenzhou 8" spacecraft. According to the orbit calculation results, "Shenzhou 8" spacecraft entered an orbit of about 200 kilometers from the perigee and 329 kilometers from the apogee at 6:07:53, with an orbit inclination of 42 degrees and a period of 5379 seconds, which is about 10000 kilometers away from Tiangong 1.
"Shenzhou 8" spacecraft is an improved manned spacecraft, which follows the three-module structure of return module, propulsion module and orbital module, with a total length of 9 meters, a maximum diameter of 2.8 meters and a takeoff mass of 8082 kg. Microwave radar, laser radar, CCD sensor and other rendezvous and measurement equipment as well as active docking mechanism are added, with automatic and manual rendezvous, docking and separation functions. The docking mechanism adopts the heterologous isomorphic peripheral configuration of the inverted guide plate, which can form a 0.8-meter astronaut transfer channel after docking.
According to the plan released by the China Manned Space Office, the first rendezvous and docking is an unmanned automatic rendezvous and docking test. The docking target aircraft is Tiangong-1, and the tracking aircraft is Shenzhou-8. The rendezvous and docking flight process is divided into remote guidance phase, autonomous control phase, docking phase, combined flight phase and separation and evacuation phase.
The long range guidance section starts after the Shenzhou 8 spacecraft enters orbit. Guided by the ground TT&C communication system, the Shenzhou 8 spacecraft has undergone five orbital changes, and transferred from the initial orbit to a near-circular orbit of 330 kilometers. At about 52 kilometers below the rear of the Tiangong 1 target aircraft, it establishes a stable air-air communication link with the Tiangong 1 target aircraft, and starts autonomous navigation.
The autonomous control segment experienced three stages of seeking, approaching and translation. The Shenzhou 8 spacecraft navigated to contact with the Tiangong-1 target aircraft through rendezvous and docking measuring equipment, and the autonomous control flight process was about 144 minutes.
The docking section starts from the contact of the docking mechanism, and completes the four processes of capturing, buffering, pulling and locking within 15 minutes, and finally realizes the rigid connection of the two aircraft to form a combination.
The combined flight phase is controlled by the Tiangong-1 target aircraft, and the Shenzhou-8 spacecraft is in a docking state. The combination flew for about 12 days, and the second rendezvous and docking test was carried out. After the docking mechanism was unlocked, the two aircraft separated, and the Shenzhou 8 spacecraft was evacuated to a place 140 meters away from the Tiangong 1 target aircraft for berthing, and the second rendezvous and docking was conducted according to the docking procedure to form the assembly again.
After the combination continued to fly for 2 days, it entered the separation and evacuation phase, and the two aircraft separated again. The Shenzhou 8 spacecraft evacuated to a safe distance of 5 kilometers away from the Tiangong 1 target aircraft, and the rendezvous and docking test ended.
Then, the Shenzhou 8 spacecraft flew according to the scheduled return procedure, and the return module returned to the main landing site; The Tiangong-1 target aircraft changed its orbit and rose to an altitude of about 370 kilometers for autonomous flight orbit operation, waiting for the next rendezvous and docking.
According to the rendezvous and docking mission plan, Shenzhou 9 and Shenzhou 10 spacecraft will be launched in 2012, and two more rendezvous and docking will be conducted. Whether Shenzhou 9 is manned or not will be decided according to the evaluation of Shenzhou 8 mission, and Shenzhou 10 will carry out manned flight.
Through the above missions, breakthroughs and mastery of space rendezvous and docking technology will bring China's manned space technology to a new level.

中国载人航天工程首次空间交会对接任务正式开始实施。
据悉,发射的“神舟八号”将于之前发射的“天宫一号”,和随后发射的“神舟九号”、“神舟十号”飞船对接,从而建立第一个中国空间实验室。

中新网11月1日电 中国载人航天工程总指挥常万全今日在北京飞控中心宣布,“神舟八号”飞船已进入预定轨道,发射圆满成功。根据计划,飞船将在2天内完成与天宫一号目标飞行器交会对接。

11月1日5时58分07秒,中国“长征二号F”遥八运载火箭在酒泉卫星发射中心载人航天发射场点火起飞,将“神舟八号”飞船发射升空。根据轨道计算结果,“神舟八号”飞船于6时7分53秒进入近地点约200千米,远地点329千米,轨道倾角为42度,周期5379秒的运行轨道,与天宫一号尚有1万公里左右的距离。
“神舟八号”飞船为改进型载人飞船,沿用返回舱、推进舱和轨道舱三舱结构,全长9米,舱段最大直径2.8米,起飞质量8082千克。增加了微波雷达、激光雷达、CCD敏感器等交会测量设备,以及主动式对接机构,具备自动和手动交会对接与分离功能。对接机构采用导向板内翻式的异体同构周边式构型,对接后可形成0.8米的航天员转移通道。
据中国载人航天办公室发布的方案,首次交会对接为无人自动交会对接试验,对接目标飞行器为天宫一号,追踪飞行器为神舟八号飞船。交会对接飞行过程分为远距离导引段、自主控制段、对接段、组合体飞行段和分离撤离段。
远距离导引段自神舟八号飞船入轨后开始,在地面测控通信系统的导引下,神舟八号飞船经五次变轨,从初始轨道转移到330千米的近圆轨道,在距天宫一号目标飞行器后下方约52千米处,与天宫一号目标飞行器建立稳定的空空通信链路,开始自主导航。
自主控制段经历寻的、接近和平移靠拢三个阶段,神舟八号飞船通过交会对接测量设备,自主导航至与天宫一号目标飞行器接触,自主控制飞行过程约144分钟。
对接段从对接机构接触开始,在15分钟之内完成捕获、缓冲、拉近和锁紧四个过程,最终实现两飞行器刚性连接,形成组合体。
组合体飞行段由天宫一号目标飞行器负责组合体飞行控制,神舟八号飞船处于停靠状态。组合体飞行12天左右,择机进行第二次交会对接试验。对接机构解锁后,两飞行器分离,神舟八号飞船撤离至距天宫一号目标飞行器140米处停泊,按照对接程序进行第二次交会对接,再次构成组合体。
组合体继续飞行2天后,进入分离撤离段,两飞行器再次分离,神舟八号飞船撤离至距天宫一号目标飞行器5千米外的安全距离,交会对接试验结束。
然后,神舟八号飞船按预定返回程序飞行,返回舱返回主着陆场;天宫一号目标飞行器变轨升至高度约370千米自主飞行轨道运行,等待下一次交会对接。
根据交会对接任务计划安排,将于2012年发射神舟九号和神舟十号飞船,再进行两次交会对接。其中神舟九号飞船是否载人,将根据神舟八号飞行任务评估情况决策,神舟十号飞船执行载人飞行。
通过上述飞行任务,突破和掌握空间交会对接技术,将使中国载人航天技术水平跃上一个新的台阶。
