The Forty-Two Chapters of the Buddhist Sutra: The Wisdom of Learning Buddhism and Practice
amitabha. The Forty-Two Chapters Sutra is simple and convenient, and you can understand it at a glance.
----Zhuge Changqing
The Chinese culture is vast.
Chinese classics are like stars.
China has many treasures of wisdom to promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
These wisdom treasures of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism are all great wisdom left by ancient and modern sages.
We are grateful to Confucius, Laozi, Sakyamuni and other immeasurable sages.
Chinese Confucianism, Buddhism and Yehui culture are like sweet springs that nourish people's hearts.
Zhuge Changqing's wisdom and sages' books are broad concepts, such as:
Confucian universities, the doctrine of the mean, the Analects of Confucius, Mencius, the Book of Songs, Shang Shu, the Book of Rites, the Book of Changes, the Spring and Autumn Annals, disciple rules, and the Three-character Classic;
Taoism's Tao Te Ching, the Supreme Sensation, the Qingjing Sutra, the Beidou Sutra, the Book of Changes, the Yellow Emperor's Internal Sutra, Yu Jingyi's Meeting with the Kitchen God, the Jade Calendar Treasure Notes, etc;
The Buddhist Heart Sutra, Vajra Sutra, Dizang Sutra, Fahua Sutra, Huayan Sutra, Shurangama Sutra, Forty-two Chapters Sutra of Buddha Saying, the Sixth Ancestor Tanra, and the Fourth Sutra of Liaofan, etc. The Bible of Jesus Christ, etc. The Quran of Mohammed Islam.
These treasured books are the basis for enlightenment, change of fate, promotion of life happiness, and promotion of results.
On the way to practice, Zhuge Changqing recommended you to see a treasure of wisdom of practice.
This treasured book is an inspirational classic, which is concise, easy to understand, easy to learn, inspiring and full of positive energy.
The Forty-Two Chapters Sutra of Buddha is also the first Buddhist sutra to enter China.
In the process of studying Buddhist culture, Zhuge Changqing found that many Buddhist masters and Chinese scholars positioned the first Buddhist scripture in China as the Forty-Two Chapters of Buddhist Scripture, and often recommended practitioners to read and reflect carefully.
After reading the Sutra of the Forty-Two Chapters of the Buddha, I felt that the text of the Sutra was concise, understandable and clear at a glance. Maybe it was the arrangement made by the Buddha in advance.
Zhuge Changqing recommends that those who are destined have time to read the Forty-Two Chapters of the Buddha Sutra several times, and you will gain a lot. The Forty-Two Chapters of Buddha Saying is also like a mirror, which allows you to find out your shortcomings and make a rapid leap.
"Chapter 42" refers to other items once they have passed; The meaning of this passage is divided into 42 paragraphs.
"Sutra" refers to Sutra in Sanskrit. This Yunqi Sutra can be called Sutra for all the truth that Buddha says. This sutra is named 42 Chapters Sutra because it contains 42 paragraphs of scriptures, which capture the Buddha and say all the great righteousness of cause and effect.
1、 The first Buddhist sutra in China: The Forty-Two Chapters of Buddhist Saying Sutra
Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Everything is chance. The Forty-Two Chapters Sutra, the first Buddhist sutra in China. Why is entering China a classic? Because this sutra is about the basic method of practice.
Zhuge Changqing believes that after reading it carefully several times, you will suddenly realize a lot.
It comes from a dream of Emperor Ming of the Eastern Han Dynasty. This led to the story of "White Horse Carrying Sutra" and White Horse Temple.
The forty-two chapters of Buddhist scriptures are simple and convenient. They can be understood at a glance and point directly at the heart of the people, so that people can quickly understand the essence of Buddhist wisdom.
For example, the Buddha directly told all living beings that they regard ten things as good and ten things as evil.
What is ten?
Body three, mouth four, and mind three.
The third is killing, stealing and lusting.
Four aspects of mouth: two tongues, evil mouth, false words, and beautiful words.
There are three meanings: jealousy, cloning and ignorance.
If ten things do not follow the holy way, they are called ten evil deeds. If it is evil, it is ten good deeds wait.
One night in the 10th year of Yongping in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 69), Emperor Ming of the Han Dynasty had a dream and saw a fairy with a golden body shining like the morning glow, surrounded by sunlight, flying from afar and landing in front of the hall.
Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. This is the chance! The Buddha said that the merit and virtue sutra of tower building said that "all laws are born by reason, and all laws are destroyed by reason". Emperor Ming of the Han Dynasty dreamed of the Buddha. This is the chance in the dark.
Emperor Ming of the Han Dynasty was very happy. The next day, he went to court and told his dream to the ministers and asked who was sacred. Tai Shi Fu Yi is knowledgeable and versatile. He told Emperor Ming of the Han Dynasty: I heard that there was a god who was enlightened in western India, known as Buddha, who could fly in the void, surrounded by sunlight, and you might dream of Buddha. Emperor Ming of the Han Dynasty was very interested in Fu Yi's words.
So they sent 13 envoys to the Western Regions, including Qin Jing, Yin, and Wang Zun. Cai Yin and Qin Jing traveled across mountains and rivers to reach the country of Tianzhu. People in India welcomed China's envoy to ask for Buddhist scriptures.
There are two Shamen (senior monks) in Tianzhu, one named Shumo Teng and the other named Zhu Fang, who helped Cai Yin and Qin Jing get some Buddhist principles. Later, at the invitation of Cai Yin and Qin Jing, he decided to come to China.
Three years later, they came to Luoyang together, brought back scriptures and Buddha statues, and began to translate part of the Buddhist scriptures, which is said to be the current version of the Forty-Two Chapters Sutra.
At the same time, the first Buddhist temple in China was built in Luoyang, the capital of China, which is now Luoyang White Horse Temple (built in the 11th year of Yongping in the Eastern Han Dynasty). This temple was named after the white horse carrying the Buddhist scriptures and statues at that time, and the white horse temple also became the "ancestral court" and "source of Buddhism". Zhuge Changqing: Many historical relics and legends come from the historical stories of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Luoyang White Horse Temple is the first temple in China.
2、 The Sutra of the Forty-Two Chapters of the Buddha is a treasure of wisdom for practice. It is like a mirror of practice. It guides your practice and encourages you to continue to improve.
Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. We are grateful for the great wisdom left by Sakyamuni Buddha.
It is suggested that those who have a chance to read it several times, and you will make a great leap in wisdom.
If you are slack on the way of practice, if you are confused on the way of practice, if you are unable to observe the precepts, then look at the Buddhist Sutra of Forty-two Chapters, which is the treasure book of practice. After reading it, you will suddenly understand and leap.
The content of the Sutra of the Forty-Two Chapters of the Buddha: Chinese translation of Kasyamaten and Zhufrang in the Eastern Han Dynasty
The Blessed One has become a thinker. Silence is the best way to leave. Live in great meditation, and lower all evil ways. In the Luye Garden, turn the wheel of the Four Noble Dharma, and pass through five people, such as Kausachen Ru, to preach the truth. Once again, there are all the doubts mentioned by the monks. The order of the Blessed One is enlightened one by one, and the palm is closed to honor the promise, and the order is obeyed.
(Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. This chapter describes the process of Buddha becoming Buddha and spreading the Dharma.)
Buddha's saying: to leave one's family and become a monk, to know one's heart and reach one's foundation, and to understand the law of inaction, which is called Shamen. Always practice the 250 precepts, enter and stop the purity, and become an Arhat. Arhats can fly and change, rob life span and move the world; The second is Anaham, Anaham, the end-of-life spirit god, who testified to Arhat for nineteen days; The second is Sitohan, and the second is Sitohan; The second is Xutuohuan. Those who have Xutuohuan have seven deaths and seven lives, which proves that Arhat. Those who have lost their love, such as their limbs, should not be reused.
(Zhuge Changqing: In this chapter, Buddha explained in simple words what is Shaman, what is Arhat, and how Arhat practices.)
Buddha's saying: Monk Shaman, who has no desire to love, knows the source of his heart, reaches the Buddha's deep understanding, and understands the law of inaction. There is no gain inside, no demand outside, and the heart is not tied to the Tao, and no graduation. Without thinking and doing, it is not practice, not proof, not experience, but respect the most, and its name is Tao.
(Zhuge Changqing: The Buddha explained in simple words that if you want to succeed in practice, you must break your desire to love
Know the original pure heart, understand the wisdom of Buddha, and suddenly realize the law of inaction.)
Buddhist saying: Shave your hair and become a shaman. Those who receive the Dharma will die and beg for enough money. If you eat in the middle of the day and sleep under the tree, be careful not to do it again. Love and desire are those who fool people.
(Zhuge Changqing: The Buddha pointed out in simple words that the cultivators should maintain a pure heart, not be greedy for worldly things, and always be diligent in practice. Tell the cultivators that there are two things that hinder the cultivation - love and desire. Work hard on breaking love and lust.)
Buddhist saying: All living beings regard ten things as good and ten things as evil. If it is evil, it is ten good deeds.
(Zhuge Changqing: Buddha used simple words to remind people to do good deeds and accumulate virtue at all times. Do a good job of ten good deeds and get rid of ten evil deeds, so that they can always keep the heart of doing good deeds and accumulate virtue and keep in the atmosphere of doing good deeds and accumulate virtue.)
Buddha's saying: People have many mistakes and don't regret them. Sin comes and goes, like water returning to the sea, and gradually becomes deep and broad. If a person has a fault, he will understand the wrong, change the evil and do good, and the crime will disappear. If you sweat from illness, you will gradually recover from ear damage.
(Zhuge Changqing: The Buddha reminds people in simple words that they should repent their sins more often. As long as they have the heart to abandon evil and do good deeds at all times, your sins will be eliminated.)
Buddha's saying: When the evil man hears good, he will disturb him. You should refrain from breathing and be free from anger and blame. Those who are evil are evil.
Buddha's words: Someone heard that I kept the Tao and practiced great kindness, so he scolded the Buddha. Fomo is wrong. Stop scolding. He asked, "If a son obeys others with courtesy, and they don't accept it, will courtesy belong to him?"? He replied, "Go home.". Buddhist saying: I don't accept the scolding of my son today. I will take the blame on myself. The voice still echoes, and the shadow follows the shape. It is inevitable to leave. Be careful not to do evil.
Buddha's saying: The evil man who harms the sage still looks up to heaven and spits, but spits not to heaven, but also falls from himself; Against the wind, the dust will not reach the other side, but will return to you. Holy cannot be destroyed, but evil will destroy itself.
Buddha's saying: If you have heard about love of the Tao, it will be difficult to understand the Tao.
Buddha's saying: When you see people practicing the Tao, you will be happy to help them, and you will be greatly blessed. Shaman asked, "Is this blessing complete?"?
Buddha's saying: For example, the fire of a torch is divided by thousands of people, and cooked food is used to eliminate the dark. This torch is the same as the past, and so is happiness.
Buddha's saying: It is better to eat a good man than to eat a bad man; A good meal is better than a good meal; The five precepts of rice are ten thousand, and it is better to eat a meal in the Huan River; It is better to eat a million Xutuohuan than to eat one Situohan; It is better to have a meal of ten thousand stanhams than a meal of one anahams; It is better to eat one hundred million arhats than to eat one hundred million arhats; It is better to eat a billion Arhats than to eat a Buddha; It is better to feed the Buddhas of the first and third generations than to feed the Buddhas of ten billion; It is better to eat hundreds of billions of Buddhas for three generations than to eat without thinking, living and practicing without certificate
Buddhist saying: People have twenty difficulties: it is difficult to give in poverty, and it is difficult for noble people to learn Tao. It is difficult to give up your life and die. It is difficult to live in the Buddha world and endure lust and lust. See whether it is good or not, and ask for difficulties. There is no danger when there is a robbery. It is difficult to learn widely and study widely, but it is difficult to kill me slowly. It is difficult not to learn lightly, but to act equally. It is difficult to be good at knowledge, not to blame. It is difficult to learn from nature, but it is difficult to follow others. It is difficult to see the situation without moving, but it is difficult to understand it well.
(Zhuge Changqing: Why can't many people's fate be changed? Because many people don't want to do good deeds and accumulate virtue. In fact, it's very simple to change fate. As long as you do good deeds and accumulate virtue, your fate will change naturally.)
Shamen asked the Buddha: What is the reason for knowing the fate and meeting it?
Buddhist saying: You can reach the Tao if you keep your mind clean. For example, grinding the mirror, removing the dirt and storing it clearly, breaking the desire without seeking, should be fatalistic.
(Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Buddha Sakyamuni reminds people that as long as they are pure and continue to make progress, they will naturally return to their own Buddha nature. The Buddha nature returns, which is like a mirror in an instant, looking at the Dharma world and seeing everything)
Shamon asked the Buddha: Which is the best and which is the greatest?
Buddhist saying: Those who practice the Tao and keep the truth are good, and those who have the will and the Tao are great.
Shamon asked the Buddha: Which is the most powerful and which is the brightest?
Buddha's saying: endure humiliation and do not bear evil, but also increase health and safety. Ninjas have no evil, they must be respected, and their heart will be destroyed, and they will be pure and clean. There is no heaven and earth. Today, we have everything in ten directions. We can see everything, know everything, and hear everything.
Buddha's saying: People who are passionate about love and do not see the Tao, such as clear water, will stir it with their hands, and no one will see it. People's love and desire are intertwined, and their hearts are turbid, so they don't see the Tao. You, Shamon, should give up love and lust, and the way is visible.
(Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Why is it difficult for many people to achieve positive results? The core reason is that they can't let go of love. Love will make people's heart become turbid, and will make the mirror of the heart become turbid. If their heart is turbid, they will stay away from becoming Buddha and becoming Tao.)
Buddhist saying: When a man sees the Tao, such as holding a torch, enters the chamber of the nether world, the nether world will perish, and the Ming will remain alone. If you learn the truth of the Tao, you will die if you don't know it, and it will always exist.
(Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Being open-minded is like lighting a torch to illuminate the darkness.)
Buddhist saying: I have no thoughts, no actions, no words, no practice. Those who meet are close, while those who are confused are far away. Their words and opinions are not bound by things. They are very close, and they are lost in a minute.
Buddha's saying: Look at heaven and earth, read very much, look at the world, read very much, look at spiritual awareness, that is, Bodhi. If it is knowledge, you will be ill.
Buddha's saying: When you read the four big names in your body, each of them is famous, and none of them is me.
Buddha's saying: People follow their desires and seek fame. They are famous. They are dead. They are greedy for fame, but do not learn Tao. For example, burning incense, although people smell incense, the incense will burn, and the fire that endangers the body will be behind.
Buddha's saying: Wealth and lust depend on people. For example, if the blade has honey, it is less than the beauty of a meal. If children lick it, they will suffer from tongue cutting.
Buddhist saying: People are in the house of their wives, which is more than prison. There is a period of release in prison, and the wives have no desire to stay away. Love in color, not afraid to drive away. Although there is a tiger in the mouth, the heart is willing to fall and drown in mud, so it is called a mortal. Get through this door and come out of Arhat.
Buddha said: Love and lust are nothing more than lust. The lust of lust is nothing but lust. It depends on one thing. If we use the two things together, the people of the whole world will not be able to act as Tao.
Buddhist saying: A man who loves is like a torch. If he goes against the wind, he will burn his hands. The god of heaven offered the jade daughter to the Buddha to destroy the Buddha's will.
Buddhist sayings: What are you doing? Go, I don't need to. The more reverent the god is, the more he asks for the meaning, and the Buddha interprets it, the more he gets the fruit of Xutuohuan.
Buddhist saying: The man who is the Tao is like a tree in the water. It does not touch the two sides, is not taken by people, is not covered by ghosts and gods, is not inhabited by migratory flows, and is not corrupt. I protect this wood and decide to go to the sea. People who learn Taoism are not confused by lust or enchanted by evil spirits. If I protect this person, I will get the Tao.
(Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Buddha Sakyamuni used wood to float in the water as a metaphor to remind people that as long as they persevere, they will reach their destination. On the path of practice, we must adhere to the end.)
Buddhist saying: Be careful not to believe your intentions, and your intentions are not to be trusted. Be careful not to have sex meetings, and sex meetings will bring disaster. I believe your will when I get Arhat.
Buddha's saying: Be careful not to look at women, nor to share words. If you talk with them, you will miss them. As Shaman, I am in the turbid world. I should be like a lotus, not muddy. The elderly are like mothers, the elderly are like sisters, the young are like sisters, and the childish are like children. They are born to break away from their minds and eliminate evil thoughts.
(Amitabha. The Buddha Sakyamuni Buddha created a method to get rid of sexual immorality. If your heart is lustful and lustful, you can think like this: the older one is like your mother, the older one is like your sister, the younger one is like your sister, and the younger one is like your child. If you think like this, the sexual immorality will stop immediately)
Buddhist saying: A man who is a Taoist must avoid fire if he is hay. When a Taoist sees desire, he must be far away.
Buddhist saying: Some people suffer from obscenity and want to break the yin.
The Buddha said: If you break the yin, it is better to break the heart. The heart is like a meritorious Cao, and if the meritorious Cao stops, all who follow it will rest. There is more evil than evil. What's the benefit of breaking Yin!
The Buddha said: desire is born in your mind, meaning is born in your mind, and the two hearts are silent, neither color nor action.
Buddhist sayings: This verse is said by the Kasyapa Buddha.
Buddhist saying: People are worried from love, and worried from fear. If they are away from love, they are worried from fear!
(Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Sakyamuni Buddha repeatedly reminded people to stay away from lust and lust, and to keep quiet, so that they can achieve quickly. Look at the world, how many practitioners have destroyed their life's morality because of lust and lust. Amitabha, those who practice in the world are always cautious.)
Buddha's saying: A man is a Taoist. For example, if one man fights with ten thousand people, he will go out with armor. The mind may be timid, or retreat halfway, or fight to death, or win and return. When learning the Tao, Shamen should stick to his heart, be progressive and brave, be fearless of the former situation, break down the demons, and achieve the Tao.
Shamon recited the last teachings of the Buddha at night. His voice was sad, and he felt regretful. The Buddha asked him, "Why did you do it when you were at home?" The Buddha said, "Love to play the piano." The Buddha said, "How about the slow string?" The Buddha said, "Don't sing." "How about the fast string?" The Buddha said, "The sound is dead." "How about the slow string?" The Buddha said, "The sound is universal." "The same is true for Shamen to learn the Tao. If his mind is adjusted, the Tao can be obtained. If the Tao is violent, his body is tired when he is violent, his mind is angry when he is tired, his mind is angry when he is angry when he is doing it, and his actions are gone when he is doing it, and his sin will be added when he is doing it. But if he is clean and happy, the Tao will not be lost."
(Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Buddha Sakyamuni reminded people that on the way to learn Buddhism, they should not be too anxious, too tight, or too loose, and should be appropriate. Just like Confucius said, "the way of the middle way", keep a normal mind, and work naturally. If you are persistent in your heart, you will easily fall into 50 evil situations.)
Buddha's saying: If people forge iron, remove the dross and make a tool, the tool is fine. Those who learn the Tao should remove the dirt in their heart and be clean when they walk.
(Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Buddha Sakyamuni pointed out that practice is like forging iron, removing dregs, leaving essence, you are essence, essence is Buddha and Bodhisattva.)
Buddha's saying: It is difficult for people to leave the evil way; If you have to be a man, it is difficult to be a woman; If you are a man, it is difficult to have six; It is difficult to be born in China with six roots; Born in China, it is difficult to be worthy of Buddhism; Since it is worthy of Buddhism, it is difficult to meet the Tao; It is difficult to have faith when you have met the Tao; It is difficult to develop Bodhi's heart when one is confident; It is difficult to cultivate Bodhicitta without certificate.
Buddha said: The Buddha is thousands of miles away from me. If you remember my precepts, you will get the Tao fruit; Around me, although we are common, if we do not obey our precepts, we will not get the way. (Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. Buddha Sakyamuni reminded people that only by observing the precepts can we achieve something. If we do not observe the precepts, it will be difficult to achieve.)
Buddha asked Shaman: How many rooms are human lives? Answer: In a few days. Buddhist saying: Son has never heard of Tao. Then asked a shaman: How many rooms are there? Answer: Between meals. Buddhist saying: Son has never heard of Tao. Then asked a shaman: How many rooms are there? Answer: Breathing room. Buddhist saying: Good, I know!
Buddhist sayings: Those who learn Buddhism and Taoism should believe everything that Buddha says. For example, if you eat honey, both sides are sweet.
Buddha's saying: Shamon is like grinding cattle. Although the body is in line with the Tao, the mind is not. If the mind is in line, what is the use of the Tao.
Buddha's saying: A man who is a Taoist should walk in the deep mud like an ox. I am extremely tired and dare not look around. If I leave the mud, I can rest. Shamon should observe the lust, which is more than the mud. He can avoid suffering by thinking straight.
Buddha's saying: I regard the position of a prince as if it had passed through the dust; See the treasure of gold and jade as rubble; Look at the clothes of the rich and simple as my silk; Look at the great universe as a chebula; Look at the water in the lake, such as applying enough oil; Look at the side door, like a treasure gathering; Seeing nothing as superior is like a dream of gold and silk; Look at Buddhism and Taoism as if they are in front of you; Meditation, such as Xumi column; Seeing Nirvana, like watching in the day and night; Look straight, like the six dragon dance; Treat equality as one; See Xinghua as a four-hour tree. (Zhuge Changqing: Amitabha. The Buddha Sakyamuni reminded people that everything in the world of mortals is like a dream and a bubble. Life is short. At that time, stop evil and do good, promote the law and benefit life, benefit the society, benefit mankind, and live independently, and then become a real man.)
The great monks, hearing what the Buddha said, rejoiced in pursuing it.
Zhuge Changqing wishes that the people in the world will use the Forty-two Chapters of the Buddha Sutra as a mirror of spiritual cultivation and inspiration, always encourage themselves to move forward, continue to do good deeds and accumulate virtue, promote the law and benefit life, continue to calm the heart, enlighten wisdom, and finally achieve rich human blessings and Buddha results.
Don't do any evil, follow all good deeds, persevere, and respond to all requests. Come on, everyone!
Introduction to Zhuge Changqing: Zhuge Changqing, the inheritor and promoter of traditional Chinese culture, is willing to work with like-minded people in the world to "inherit traditional Chinese culture, promote good morality, revitalize China, and benefit the world".
