Holy Land of Buddha's Lecture: Origin of the name of Lonely Garden given by a tree

佛祖讲经圣地:祇树给孤独园名称来历

amitabha. Buddha preached sutras, and heaven and earth echoed. All kinds of causes contribute to the great dharma.

Blessed life is limitless.

If you often read the Buddhist scriptures, you will find that a sacred place is often mentioned in the Buddhist scriptures.

This sacred place is --- a tree for the lonely garden.

For example, the Vajra Sutra, the Buddha Says Amitabha Sutra and other scriptures are at the beginning:

So I heard that for a time, the Buddha only gave trees to the lonely garden in Shewei State, which was the same as the 250 people of the great monks

Only (q í) trees give (j ǐ) Lonely garden ---- a mysterious place, a sacred place.

What does a tree mean to the lonely garden?

Zhuge Changqing studied the Buddhist culture data and found that it was for thanksgiving and commemoration of two people. It is the joint name of two people and their supplies.

Only trees+for lonely garden=only trees for lonely garden

The tree is the tree of the emperor's crown prince, Juda. He offered it to the Buddha. In order to commemorate the crown prince and the tree he offered, he called it "the tree" (only: q í).

To the lonely garden=a person who has done good deeds and accumulated virtue called "to the lonely elders", bought a garden to offer Buddha's sermon. In order to commemorate this donor and the garden he provided, they are collectively called "to the lonely garden" (to: j ǐ)。

The combination of the two is "only trees for the lonely garden".

The only tree for the lonely garden is the holy land recognized by the Buddha Sakyamuni Buddha and the place where the Buddha Sakyamuni Buddha lectured. For example, the famous Vajra Sutra, the Buddha Says Amitabha Sutra, the Shenggarland Sutra, and so on. Many parts of the Changahan Sutra, the Zhongahan Sutra, the Zaahan Sutra, and the Zengyi Ahan Sutra are also described here.

So, how did the "only tree for lonely garden" come into being?

How can "Only Trees for Lonely Garden" become the holy place for Buddha Sakyamuni to preach?

Zhuge Changqing shared the story about the origin of "only trees for the lonely garden" in the Buddha said Amitabha Sutra explained by the master of Xuanhua to the predestined:

......

"Only tree for the lonely country": "Only tree" is the tree planted by Prince Jutuo, and "To the lonely garden" is for the elders of Xudado (known as "To the lonely elders" because of doing good deeds and helping the lonely, widowed and poor).

The elder of Sudado (also known as "to the lonely elder") was a rich man in India at that time, but he did not understand Buddhism and did not even hear the name of Buddha.

One day when he married his son, he went to the house of an old friend in the city, Shantan, who was also a very rich man.

When we arrived at his house, Shantan got up in the middle of the night to decorate his house and make it very beautiful.

When Elder Sudado saw that he was so dignified, he asked him, "Do you want to do something happy when you make the house so dignified and beautiful?"

The elder Santana said, "No, I want to invite the Buddha to make a confession."

As soon as he heard the word "Buddha", his hair stood up and his pores stood up. He asked, "What is Buddha?"

The elder Santana said to him, "The Buddha is the prince of King Jingfan. He should have been the king, but he has become a monk and become a Buddha. I am going to invite the Buddha to provide for the Buddha."

The elders of Xuda Duo, even the lonely elders, can't sleep after hearing the name of Buddha.

Sakyamuni Buddha knew that he was sincere, so he let the light shine on him. As soon as the light shone on him, the elder Xuda thought it was dawn, so he got up and left the city.

The city gate was originally locked, but Sakyamuni Buddha opened the city gate with supernatural power, and the person who had to reach the length of the gate reached the place where the Buddha lived - the bamboo forest house. When we got there, there was a man from heaven in advance, who made three turns to the right of the Buddha, and then saluted the Buddha.

The person who has to reach a long distance has never seen the Buddha, nor heard the Buddha dharma, and does not understand the etiquette, so the heaven and man make a look for him. So whoever has to reach the length of the length also turns three turns to the right of the Buddha, and then kowtow to the Buddha.

The Buddha said to him that Elder Xuda was very happy to say, "Buddha, you have so many disciples, you need a big place to live. I'm going to find a big place, please Buddha to live".

Buddha said, "OK! Then go and find it."

Those who have to go back to their country to look for places everywhere, but there is no place they like.

Finally, I found the garden of "Prince Tuo", and thought the place was good and big enough.

So he asked the prince to buy his garden.

The prince didn't want to sell his own garden, but when he heard that he had to buy it, he joked with him, "Well, if you want to buy my garden, you must cover it with gold bricks, and I will sell it to you."

The elders did not bargain, and immediately moved all the gold bricks in the cellar and covered the garden.

Then he said to the prince, "Now the garden is mine."

But the prince said, "The garden is my own. How can I sell it to you? I'm joking. No! No!"

The old man said, "You said that as long as I covered the garden with gold bricks, the garden would be sold to me. How can you be a king in the future?"

After considering, the prince said, "Well, the garden has been paved with gold bricks, and you bought it; but the tree has not been paved with gold, so it is still mine, so I am offering the Buddha!" So this garden is called a tree for lonely garden.

What is giving to the lonely?

Giving is giving, that is, giving. The elders of Cueda specially give gifts to the lonely old and young. During the reign of King Wen of the Zhou Dynasty in China, there were four kinds of poor people in Zhouji: widowed, widowed, orphaned and alone. A widower is an old man without a wife (widower). A widow is an old man without a husband. An orphan is a child without a father. Only those who are old and childless. And those who need to reach more than the elderly - give relief to those who are lonely.

"Shewei Country, only trees for the lonely garden" - --- became the place where the Buddha taught Dharma.

阿弥陀佛。佛祖讲经,天地呼应。各类因缘促成大法缘。

   阿弥陀佛。

   福生无量天尊。

   大家经常读佛经,就会发现,佛经中经常提到一个神圣地方。

   这个神圣地方就是 --- 祇树给孤独园。

   如《金刚经》、《佛说阿弥陀经》等经文一开始都是:

   如是我闻,一时,佛在舍卫国祇树给孤独园,与大比丘众千二百五十人俱.......

    祇(qí)树给(jǐ)孤独园----一个神秘地方、一个神圣之地。

        祇树给孤独园有什么含义呢?

   诸葛长青研究佛法文化资料看到,这是为了感恩纪念两个人。是两个人名字和供养物品的合称。

   祇树 + 给孤独园 = 祇树给孤独园

   祇树 = 皇帝太子祇陀的树木,他供养给佛祖,为纪念太子和他供养的树木,就把此事合称为“祇树”(祇:qí)

   给孤独园 = 一位行善积德叫“给孤独长者”的人,购买了花园供养佛祖讲法,为了纪念这个供养者和他供养的花园,合起来叫做“给孤独园”(给:jǐ)

   两者结合起来,就是“祇树给孤独园”。

    祇树给孤独园,是佛祖释迦牟尼佛认可的圣地,是佛祖释迦牟尼佛讲经的地方。如著名的《金刚经》、《佛说阿弥陀经》、《胜鬘经》等等,《长阿含经》、《中阿含经》、《杂阿含经》、《增一阿含经》中有很多部分也是在这里讲说的。

    那么,“祇树给孤独园”是怎么产生的?

    “祇树给孤独园”如何成为佛祖释迦牟尼佛讲经圣地呢?

   诸葛长青把宣化上人讲解《佛说阿弥陀经》中关于“祇树给孤独园”的来历故事分享给有缘者:
   ......

   “祇树给孤独国”:“祇树”是祇陀太子所种的树,“给孤独园”是须达多长者(因为行善积德救助孤寡贫困,被人称为”给孤独长者”)的。

    须达多长者(又称“给孤独长者)是当时印度的一个富人,但他不懂佛法,连佛的名字都没听过。

   有一天他为儿子娶媳妇,到城里一位朋友——珊檀那长者家里,也是一个很有钱的人。

   到了他家,见珊檀那半夜就起来,布置他的房子,把房子庄严得非常美丽。

   须达多长者看见他如此庄严舍宅,就问他说:“你把房子收拾得这样庄严好看,是不是办什么喜事?”

   珊檀那长者说:“不是的,我想请佛来应供。”

   须达多长者一听见“佛”字,头发也竖立起来了,毛孔也竖起来了,问:“什么叫佛呀?”

   珊檀那长者就对他说:“佛是净饭王的太子,本来他应该做国王,可是他出家修道成佛了。我准备请佛来应供,来供养佛。”

   须达多长者,即给孤独长者,听见佛的名字后,觉也睡不著。

   释迦牟尼佛知道他有诚心,就放光来照他,一放光照他,须达多长者以为天亮了,于是就起身出城。

   城门本来是锁著的,但释迦牟尼佛以神通力量把城门打开,须达多长者就到了佛所住的地方——竹林精舍。到了那儿,预先就有一位天人,向佛右绕三匝,然后向佛顶礼。

   须达多长者从没见过佛,也没听过佛法,不懂礼节,所以天人做一个样子给他看。于是乎须达多长者也向佛右绕三匝,然后向佛叩头顶礼。

   佛就向他说法,须达多长者非常高兴地说:“佛您有这么多的弟子,要有一个大的地方才可以住下,我预备找一个大的地方,请佛来住”。

   佛说:“好啊!那你就去找。”

  须达多长者回去本国到处找地方,却没一处合意。

   最后找到”祇陀太子“的花园,觉得地方好,也够大。

   于是向太子要求买他的花园。

   太子并不想卖自己的花园,但听须达多长者要买,就同他开玩笑说:“好,你若要买我的花园,须将金砖铺满它,我就卖给你。”

   长者没有讨价还价,回家马上将窖藏的金砖全搬去,铺满了花园。

   然后对太子说:“现在园子是我的了。”

   但太子说:“花园是我自己的,怎可卖给你呢?我是开玩笑的。不卖!不卖!”

   须达多长者说:“你说只要我将金砖铺满花园,园子即卖给我。你将来要做国王的,怎可说话没有信用呢?”

   太子考虑后说:“好,园子已铺满金砖,是你买的;但树没铺金子,故仍是我的,算是我供养佛吧!”所以此园叫祇树给孤独园。

   何谓给孤独者?

   给即周济,亦即布施。因须达多长者专门布施给孤独的老幼。中国周朝文王时,周济四种穷苦人:即鳏、寡、孤、独。鳏是老而无妻者(鳏夫)。寡是老而无夫者(寡妇)。孤是幼而无父者(孤儿)。独是老而无子者。而须达多长者——给孤独者也救济这四种人。

  “舍卫国,祇树给孤独园”----就成了佛祖讲法的地方。
